Gigs and concerts

If you could see any band or artist, current or historic who would it be.

My historic band would be Joy Division, I was 9 when Ian Curtis died and I've no idea how I came across them really but I'm so glad I did, maybe I stared with New Order and worked backwards.

The current band probably would be the Manchester Orchestra but they don't seem to tour in the UK.

My next planned concert is to see Bear's Den

  • U2,

Ah.  Now that has made me very envious.

    A great list.

When I saw the Stranglers (twice) it was a small venue even though they were in the charts.

It was also affordable for a school child from my Saturday job money.

Nowadays that would never happen - it would be in a huge venue and unaffordable for lots.

  • Fine by me, although your list made me feel quite jealous as my concert going as been very limited as I'm not keen on crowds etc.

I was dragged along to see the fine young cannibals, the Christians, the proclaimers, lonely the brave, Jimmy Summerville, James Blunt, the stranglers, U2, the pogues and there's a few comedians doing big tours as well.

U2 were great and very loud, James Blunt was very early in his career when he was touring " back to bedlam"

  • Sorry, when I 1st posted, I mistook the thread for a 'what bands/artists have you seen' one (which we have had before + I copy + pasted my reply from).

I'd be interested to know who the OP and anyone else has seen too and also which concert they consider the 'best' for whatever reason.

I hope that adding to your thread is OK?

If not, I shall delete this.

    Thanks.

More recently I went to a Pete Tong concert in Brighton with various dance musicians.

I'd have liked to have seen The Cure, New Order, U2 and Talking Heads in the 80s.

  • I love talking heads. I remember I was staying in Newcastle when Queen played at St. James's park, I was about 3 miles away and I could still hear it.

I saw U2 in Glasgow in the early 90s and you could physically feel the music vibrating through you as it was so loud. The pogues were fun and incredibly talented and Shane was great even though he wasn't always particularly coherent.

There's a video of Annie Lennox and David Bowie rehearsing under pressure for the Freddie Mercury tribute concert that gives me goosebumps.

  • In the late 70s I was lucky to see David Bowie and Queen with Freddie Mercury, both singers sadly no longer with us. I also saw Japan shortly before they disbanded.

I would have liked to see New Order, Kraftwerk and Talking Heads.
