Fidget toys

Hello, can anyone recommend a good fidget toy? I've tried a handful of different types and can't seem to find one that is satisfying. It either makes too much noise or doesn't have a fluid/repetitive enough motion for my likes.

Very curious to hear about everyone's preference!

Growing  up, my #1 stim was hair twirling. For whatever reason it was deemed inappropriate  behavior and I was disciplined for it in elementary school. That caused me to shave my head in an effort to stop and my stim quickly changed to finger picking. Needless to say my poor cuticles suffer Disappointed

  • I tend to use either a special pebble, that is just the right shape, size, density and texture, or a squash ball. The latter is useful as it also helps to improve the power of my grip.

  • I have have fidget spinner, I've had it for over 5 years now, I've also tried fidget cubs too, But I really like using the fidget spinner, It's really relaxing, in my opinion

  • I've been experimenting with toys myself recently. I've tried the fidget cube, the infinity cube, spinners, sliders, magnetic wheels, all that sort of thing. For me, I like the tactile feel of metal and the action of flicking something open and closed. A zippo lighter works for me, because even without lighter fluid it's good for that tactile response, and it's a discreet item to carry around. Other than that though, the magnetic card slider and the infinity cube have worked pretty well for me. That said I'm still on the hunt for The One.

  • I was allowed to keep it with me during a recent medical procedure (colonoscopy) and the nurse really liked it :)

I think it will also be great for my dental appointments. I have one coming up soon (gulp!), so will definitely take it with me. It should give me something else to focus on - or try to!

  • Annoyingly, they messed up with the Signets.

A recent campaign update explains that the size they'd planned to make wouldn't have been allowed under laws that are designed to prevent children from swallowing magnets (even though they would only have been marketed for age 14+).

The new size is too big for my liking, so I cancelled my pledge. :(

  • I'm really interested in the calm buddi. I've never heard of that type of stimming before but I think I might like it.

  • Ooo I really like that concept. Thanks for the suggestion!

  • I appreciate everyone's response but I am surprised more people didn't chime in haha.

  • I've never ordered from temu but I have ordered from aliexpress a few times. It was such a terrible experience that I'm too skeptical to even try temu.

  • This one looks really neat, I think I might like it!

  • Wow, thank you all so much for sharing!!

  • I have stims, one of them caused me having few dark spots on my lips (lip picking) the spots are getting darker and bigger so I’m scared it may be a cancer. It would be terrible and unbelievable how untreated autism may cause a cancer… but I’m still waiting for my appointment to the dermatologist, I hope it’s nothing serious. Recently I bought myself a toy car. It’s the little one “hot wheels” an off-road car with bigger wheels which gives me a nice sensation on my skin. I drive it along my arm, hand, I play with the wheels etc. sometimes others look at me like I’m crazy or something. But I got used to it. Since I decided to quit suffering in shops and wear sunglasses in there - I get stares. I’m not harming anyone I also need to stop harming myself with my stims.

  • Does no-one else stim? are we the only ones??

  • The ONO Signets seems interesting I'm tempted to go for something like that

  • Thanks for that Bunny, It was an interesting read.  I'd never buy anything electrical from China its almost certainly bound to be dangerous

  • I'm also on a fidget toy finding mission. From comparing online and social media reviews of various products against how I got on with them myself, I soon realised that finding the best fidget toy is a deeply personal thing.

Everything about it has to be "just right", including type, size, weight, texture, colour, build quality, noise level and fluidity of movement (as you said), and more.

    My current favourites are:

    • Calm Buddi - a small fidget turtle (made from recycled plastic, as it happens), with an opening shell and spiky pad for pressing your finger or thumb against. Can be used very discreetly.
    • ONO roller - I have a couple of these. I used one of them recently when talking with someone and they didn't even bat an eyelid.
    • Tangles - I have quite a few of these, in different colours :)
    • An infinity cube.
    • An octopus-style popper - with 8 small popping bubbles, and one large one.

On order / on their way:

    • Stimara Stimagz Series II - a set of magnetic fidget sticks, bought via Kickstarter (campaign now closed), with the full colour range launching soon on their website (linked).
    • ONO Signets - a set of magnetic fidget balls covered in differently textured layers of silicone (currently only available via Kickstarter, per this link)
  • When I was at school and college I used to stim with pens its a kind of Discreet way of stimming.  I also had the habit of chewing plastic pen tops which i eventually stopped after my teeth broke in my mid thirties Laughing,  The cost of the dental fees greatly encouraged me to stop Joy ( I would guess that is a form of stimming although not a very healthy one).             Over the years I've used lots of things to stim with,   when i used to smoke i used to twirl a lit cigarette in my hand and stim with that, and i used to do it with my cigarette lighter, I've stopped smoking now so i don't do that either anymore.  I stim with beer mats when i'm in a pub.  At home i sometimes stim with the battery out of the remote control when im watching Tv. I also stim with pound coins , two or three in my hand and kind of spin them and manipulate them.   I have recently bought a   spinner, similar to a rubic cube but with one side, so its a puzzle and a spinner. I personally don't get them much out of it, But you might like it,  I think we all have our own preferences and favorites.

  • i ordered it off temu
