Introduce Yourself!

Hello everyone!

I’m Maria, and I’m new here. I recently received an autism diagnosis, which has been a mix of relief and confusion for me. I’m excited to join this community and learn from all of you.

A bit about me: I’m 49 years old and live in south Florida in my own condo, and I enjoy reading, swimming, adult coloring, and eating out. I’m here to share experiences, ask questions, and hopefully make some friends along the way.

I’ve been trying to understand more about how autism affects daily life and relationships, and I’d love to hear your stories and advice.

Looking forward to connecting with all of you!

Best, Maria

  • Hi Maria, I'm a 67 year old widower with a long history of severe mental illness. It took a move to a new area to finally get an autism diagnosis in 2019. I had been ignored by my previous health team re more going on than SMI  since circa 2001.

  • Hi Maria.

I'm David. I was clinically diagnosed with autism in 2020, shortly after I had turned 60 years of age. I just retired as a teacher after having spent 32 years in a classroom. I'm dual certified as an elemetnary teacher as well as a chef instructor for high school Culinary Arts. I live in southern Nevada.

Since you wrote your post two days ago, would I be correct in assuming that you successfully weathered Hurricane Helene?

I understand that you're in a condo. In contrast, I own a 3 bedroom, 3 bathroom 1,750 sq. ft. house. If this question isn't too intrusive, did your condo associaton stay current on mainenance? The news says that the condo market in Florida is glutted right now because people who have been unable to pay their ridiculously high maintenance fees of $25,000+ have opted to sell their properties.

For those of you who aren't familiar with this problem, several condos in Florida have been evacuated because the properties weren't well maintained and structural damage from the salt laden air had over time, eroded strcutural supports. A lot of condos are now getting caught up on a backlog of maintainance but have passed the costs on to the owners.

  • Hi Maria

Welcome to the forum and congratulations on your diagnosis. I hope it gives you lots of answers and that you learn some interesting things about yourself.

  • Welcome, Maria! :)

  • Welcome Emerald! Yes, relief and confusion! I hope to see you on here.

  • Hi Maria, welcome to the community! I’m female in middle thirties, I love aliens, it’s visible on my profile picture and I love listening to music, I write sci fi stories and I like trams. I would suggest you change your profile picture, it’s in our site rules written, we should not post personal information, including our photos (for our own safety). I hope you find here what you’re looking for.

  • Welcome to the community forum

Strongly advice not to have a real profile photo. Mine is a penguin as I like them.
