Space, man!

Busy spaces are a difficult combination of sensory overload and randomness – I realise this now as a late-diagnosed autistic person. This isn’t to say I always want to be on my own. I just like to have plenty of notice about what’s coming. Invasions aren’t fun. Plus, being in my own orbit means I can float around in my own spacious head.

  • I negotiate Concrete Jungles pretty well; having had experience of regular trips to Belfast, and back, since 2015.

Driving, through congestion, is the next challenge.

Thank God I live out in the sticks, however. I can keep the urban histrionics at arms length.

  • I love open spaces, like the countryside. But when you stop and climb an tree, on a summery afternoon, and some women with a dog walks by, as they do, i'm sure it gives off weirdo vibes lol

  • I was shopping earlier and even though the shops were fairly empty, many of the people who were there seemed to want to get to close. I wondered if they were tourists from busy places who need to be in jostling distance to feel OK?
