Space, man!

Busy spaces are a difficult combination of sensory overload and randomness – I realise this now as a late-diagnosed autistic person. This isn’t to say I always want to be on my own. I just like to have plenty of notice about what’s coming. Invasions aren’t fun. Plus, being in my own orbit means I can float around in my own spacious head.

  • I was shopping earlier and even though the shops were fairly empty, many of the people who were there seemed to want to get to close. I wondered if they were tourists from busy places who need to be in jostling distance to feel OK?
