What have you done today?

I went food shopping, which was stressful because I had to walk back home carrying my heavy backpack in the baking sun. Then I went out and met my two friends, who, like me, have AS, at a nice tea room. I finally went to Oxfam where I did some voluntary work, steaming and pricing clothes, and chatting with the other volunteers

  • Been out in town with my 4 year old son,

Popped for a cup of tea into a local cafe that supports a youth centre and youth psychology charity,

My son managed to help tidy up all the balls on the youth club pool table by putting them in the pockets where they all belong in numerical order (american pool) whilst I paid for the tea. Had to apologise but the people playing thought it was hilarious.

Now back at home where he is reciting Dora the explorer at me (One step up from nursery rhymes so I am thankful for that)

  • Thus far, I have woken up; ish. I have micturated. Also I performed some of my daily oral hygiene routine, I have come on here to check to see the amount of Autistical  correspondence there has been over night. I feel a stool is being readied for dispatch within the next 60 minutes. It is 08.00hrs exactly, right now.

  • Went to work as usual, started a new job but my work involves construction so a job could be one day or several months in length.

I prefer longer contracts as I don't like change or uncertainty. I can be in charge/responsible for one or six men,a constant balancing act.I get the jobs that have to be very accurate and also any jobs with tricky customers.I do huge amounts of written form filling and am a safety supervisor. I literally adapt who I am depending on the need at the time. Mr Ben,

quite-how I got to this stage in my chaotic life I will never know, tonight we are having fish and chips yum yum.

  • Looking for somewhere to live, somewhere to rest my head. Disappointed

  • Not much at all.

Got shown up by my NAS support. The support worker was off ill and noone had the decency to let me know.

  • Posted some really interesting stuff on my threads, honest.

  • Hi hope! You did well finding a small university you thrived in. I still live at home with my dad. I go to oxfam 2 or 3 times a week in the afternoons. How many days do you go to oxfam? Do you do a full day or half a day like me? Which is your favourite job at oxfam? I still have not recieved the part for my washing machine so am having to take my washing to the laundrette with my dad on fridays! I have started to go a bit more regurlarly to the day centre now, about twice a week in the mornings. Its not right government making cuts to vital services when they managed to find money to bail out banks and give millions of pounds to overseas aid! There determined to make the lives of the elderly and disabled peoples lives a misery. Have been a bit stressed today as was getting non stop nuisance calls from this man i used to be friends with at the day centre. Have had to unplug the phone but was worried i couldnt go on the internet as my broadband is connected to the phone line!

  • My mental health centre is also at risk of being cut, particularly day services.

  • Hello

I have been at Oxfam for 8 years, and I feel really at home there. Regarding uni, I attended my home university, so I still lived with my parents, as I do now. The uni is very small, and I coped because I thrived in the structured, close knit environment. It was walking to and from uni that was a problem, because at this stage I could not walk past people in the street (I was fine walking near people when in the uni itself), and so I had to allow a lot of time for getting to uni

  • Hi hope i have been volunteering at oxfam for a year and a half now. Someone helped me to go for this job. How long have you been at oxfam? I am the only one there with a disability. The manageress is nice there. I dont just have aspergers but i have severe depression, anxiety, ocd and hundreds of phobias! Am surprised i manage to leave the house at all really! I notice in another post you say you have a degree! So how did you cope with being at university with other people? I also have severe social anxiety so its very difficult for me to go to places like colleges really. At the moment i also attend a day centre for mental health problems which is danger of closing down due to goverment cut backs!

  • Have you volunteered at Oxfam for long? The manager at the shop I help at, is very supportive, and she is very interested in my condition. Many people who volunteer at Oxfam seem to have disabilities, and it is interesting to share our experiences

  • Hi your lucky you have friends to see but like you i do some volunteering with oxfam in my area. I do pricing, steaming and culling. Couldnt go today as my dad needed me at home. We were waiting for the engineer to come to fix the washing machine, well to try and unlock the door to the machine as my clothes have been stuck there since sunday as we couldnt open the door! Anyway they are coming with new parts for it on wednesdsay but am anxious about all the washing building up and unable to handwash clothes and go to the laundrette as thats far away and dont know how to use their machines!
