Do you know what he is reacting to and which of his senses are being overloaded? Sensory overload is often the result of certain sounds or general background noise levels. It is difficult when he is non verbal and can't tell you himself what is bothering him.
It may be the change in routine due to not being at school. Does he still have some structure and routine to his day when at home?
