I'm talking about books stacked next to each other so the spine is vertical as opposed to on top of one another. I've realised if I put my books with the front cover upside down and facing left, the spine is easier to read. Ie the text reads from bottom to top rather than top to bottom. I find this much easier to read.
I wonder if it depends on what your first language is since some people read right to left, some read left to right. I wonder if it depends if you're right or left handed?
I have read spines can be printed ascending or descending with one you have to *** your head left, the other, right.
Oh there in a kitchen cupboard. It’s only specific genres that are kept like this. I have fiction and non fiction separate. Mostly my fiction is now audio too. They’re grouped by authors.
Yes. I don't have enough books for that. And I wouldn't be able to find what I'd want. I'd have cooking mixed in with novels!
That sounds a lovely idea, very easy on the eye.
Black then dark brown, purple, dark blue right through to white.
That's interesting! Which colour do you start with? Mine are loosely grouped by topic
Stacked in order of colour…dark to light and in size large to small, all facing spine reading up. Left to right.

Ido it like that too, probably because I spent a lot of time in library as a kid, after I discovered one at age of 10.
Also my head has a preference to tilt right, and it's painful to do it left sometimes.
It doesn't matter anymore because I had to leave all bookshelves at a previous flat, not enough space in tiny studio I rent now, so all books are in boxes.
That's interesting but not sure I could cope with them appearing to be upside down. I too struggle with untidy books, I hate looking at books where some are sideways on top. It makes my mind feel too busy.
Of course, reversing the orientation of one's books every year would eliminate the sagging of pages towards the shelf, that happens over time with hardback books.
I hadn't thought about it either till I turned some round yesterday to see for myself!
I don't think it matters which way since we tilt our head one way or the other. I too like books stacked in the same way, I think most people would otherwise it looks messy!
That's interesting - I'd never really thought about it until I read this. All my books are stacked so the title reads top to bottom; I used to work in a bookshop as well as spending lots of time in libraries and I expect that is why it feels more natural for me that way as it seems to be the 'traditional' method. I'm left handed so not sure that makes a difference.
For me it's more important all the books are stacked in the SAME way - if one is put back wrong it really messes with my head and can make me feel agitated. Also all the books have to be 'level' on the shelf if some are pushed in further than others it annoys my brain.
I wonder if I approach looking for books going left to right across a shelf as I would words on a page, so ascending titles are easier for me
