My son hates writing ans his handwriting is so bad. I don’t know how to help him.
He is 7 this year.
could it be linked to sensory?

I detest the practice of teaching the ball and stick writing (sometimes referred to as printing) then teaching cursive at a later age.
It's well known that many kids struggle to transition to cursive. This is because of the way that the neurons in their brain have wired to co-ordinate their hand to write using the ball and stick style. The neurons have to be rewired in order to write cursive.
I also detest using stabilisers on bikes.
Yes it can be ASD related. Autistic children are more likely to have poorer quality handwriting.
Unfortunately at some point He is likely to have to do some practice. I did and my handwriting is still poor, but is at least legible most of the time. He is only 7 and is unlikely to want to practice, but in a couple of year he will see the benefit so I wouldn't see a reason to push it
No is the simple answer ,my father had the most beautiful copperplate writing ,i have very clear writing [just can't spell] as does my daughter ,my son has terrible writing ,we are all autistic .
One of my other daughters and wife have terrible writing they are not autistic.
I think it is more linked to speed of processing and co-ordination.
A bad workman blames his tools.
An even worse workman uses the wrong tool in the first place!
Why do many schools not allow kids to write with whatever implement they find the most comfortable? It's quite common for schools to force kids to write with a particular model of pen that nobody uses in the real world and is hard to find in the shops. I hate this pen!
Hi there. Does your son have an EHCP?
My son wasn't picked up till he was 11 and when he was at high school, he had a scribe for exams/tests and was taught to use a keyboard rather than write. The school also gave him a lot of help with teaching him how to write and he had some 1 to 1 support at school too.
We never went down the OT route, but that was something the school talked about too and that would be via GP. We tried all sorts of pens and hand grips which can be useful too.
