Is it an autistic thing to have a hugely varied taste in music, or do our tastes just diversify more as we get older? My own taste in music is very varied from heavy metal through 80's and 90's music to Trance music. For me it's not so much about the genre of the music but whether or not I like a particular song or the music to that song. Personally I like quite upbeat songs as opposed to the slower tracks, regardless of what type of music it is. What is other people's experience? What do you listen to? Do you tend to only listen to one category of music or do you prefer variety?
Haunting. Goosebumps.

Wow!
That is an amazing track, on every level!

I don't know about demand avoidance. Personally I either like a song or I don't, it doesn't tend to have too much to do with what other people think that I should or shouldn't like.
Oh that one! Personally I don't mind it but I can see how it could irritate some people, the singing is rather whiney! Are you allowed to wear noise cancelling headphones at your work?
:-) To be honest I'm quite surprised that nobody did do exactly that! I haven't had the time to go again since so I really hope that it's been fixed!
Oh no! I don't think I've heard it as I usually listen to CDs rather than the radio. I'll have a listen and see what I think.
In that buzzing light situation I'd probably have been driven to stand on a chair and either remove the offending bulb, or if it wasn't removable smash it to stop it buzzing... yes, I've really done that, in extremis.
Another thing I've noticed about my musical tastes makes me wonder about demand avoidance; I almost go out of my way to like stuff that society tells me I should like. So the directive from my parent's demographic to idolise Elvis & the 60s generally, football (I know that's not music!), and whenever I listen to classical music I can't bear "popular classics" like Pachelbel's Canon, the Musical Joke, Air on a G string, and unfortunately this also taints some music that I actually like, such as Vivaldi's Four Seasons, the Arrival of the Queen of Sheba, O Fortuna from the Carmina Burana, the Peer Gynt Suite.
On a positive note though when I'm in the right mood I love Baroque string music for its pulsing toe-tapping rhythms! Alongside my love of 1980s electronica, ambient dance and modern pop :-)
Very good advice
You could have a go at working your way through some musical theory books, such as the ABRSM ones. That would give you a good understanding of how music is arranged, and teaches you to write 4 part harmonies if you get far enough. As for music to listen to, any of the early 20th century composers were good at focusing in on the specific sounds of each instrument. There's lots of experimentalist composers too that are worth a listen - can't think of the names but I'll try and get some. My personal favourites are Holst and Elgar, both to listen to and to play. For something more modern, Phillip Glass is one of my favourites.
Fear of the toilet failing to flush :-) It's just the name of that one that made me laugh 'Pongopobia'!!
:-) The sounds I absolutely can't stand is squeaky sounds! I can handle one of my litluns crying but when they both start at the same time, which thankfully is rare, I can't handle it! I'm not a fan of thrash metal either, though sadly my cousin loves it! Chairs being pulled across a hard floor always get me, badly! My 5 year old was doing that on Saturday, repeatedly! I was at an Autism Social Club a couple of months ago and one of the lights was faulty, causing it to make this really irritating buzzing sound, the room was full of 30+ Autistic adults, It was driving us all absolutely up the wall!
I am not exaggerating either. It's like garlic to a vampire when I hear that"song"
Same with pneumatic drills, babies crying, and thrash metal. Also violins set my teeth right on edge. I do have to physically leave. I usually have to leave Superdrug because of their sound choices. Cannot bear it.
Devil woman phobia LOL :-)
I’ve just googled it. There is an actual name for Cliff Richard phobia Diabologynophobia apparently Mel B suffers from it too!
If anyone else wants to find out the name of some phobias of really random stuff, please see this website:

He’s clearly not ‘doing it’ for your dopamine levels! To be fair he doesn’t do it for mine either!
I dont know but my disgust mechanism is violently responsive to Cliff Richard
