Please can you submit your needs and wants about this design brief attached below, Thanks.
To design a product which helps the user to reduce their anxiety while in crowded areas/public spaces. It should be suitable to be used by a range of different age groups and can be used in various scenarios.
Thanks for your help
Thanks!
Hi, I don’t really have a lot of issues with crowded places but in general if a place becomes too overwhelming I leave it or avoid it. For example you would never find me at a party or a nightclub. And that’s ok. The right thing to do is sometimes to just withdraw and avoid situations that are stressful if possible. I know that’s not always possible but I do hope that more and more adjustments and options are being put into place so that it does become possible to avoid overwhelming environments (like nowadays people can easily avoid supermarkets by getting groceries delivered and there are quiet hours etc.)
That looks really smart. Well done.
It is a sensory gadget which has many different accessories, There is a rocker switch which makes a large click, a key to press upon quickly if in frustration, a marble which can be rolled around to reduce stress and a few more soft switches. There is also a textured surface on the side. I hope this helps and if you could respond to this, it will be greatly appreciated!
Hello everyone, I would like to let you know that I have now finished my product for my NEA however I now need some feedback about my product. If any of you have the spare time, please could you reply with the things you like and the things that I could improve upon for my evaluation slide. That will be greatly appreciated, Thanks! ( I will attach a picture of my product so you can see my progress.)
I think to begin with, perhaps considering the language used might be a good start - the majority of the autistic community prefer it to be written as 'autistic people' as opposed to 'people with autism' (not all, but most!). I would also steer clear of using language like 'suffer from' around autism - we don't suffer from autism, we just have differently wired brains and ways of looking at and coping with the world.
As for the actual project, I think perhaps something which someone could use to distract themselves if they're getting anxious like a sensory soothing game might be good..? Some sort of puzzle/pattern based thing which also had a textural aspect to it for calming?
Thinesh said:could you reply to this with some needs and wants that you think I should apply towards the creation of my product? T
Key requirements would be:
I would recommend starting with a review of what is on the market and avoid duplication, but instead look for gaps in the market or where existing products do not meet the requirements well. No point reinventing the wheel, although somebody did when they invented off-road tyres.
This research will show you are assessing the market, consulting with the potential users and gathering requirements to inform your design.
Do you already have something in mind? Input at this stage can help guide its development to something we actually want to own.
Maybe, thanks for your help!
I just realised you aren't actually the OP of https://community.autism.org.uk/f/miscellaneous-and-chat/32262/fidget-toys they seemed to be designing stuff for an autistic market for GCSE's too. Maybe you can @ their NAS number and compare notes.
Autistic people will sometimes wear earphones, even if they are not listening to music. This gives them a 'cover' for stimming by rocking, or arm and hand movement, as the general public would infer that they are moving to the beat of music, which is more acceptable, apparently, than just stimming.
Thank you
You are very welcome I'm impressed that you are so organized and clear. good luck
Thank you for your feedback. :) I'll be sure to implement this into my presentation.
Yes, this. Also it needs to be something you can focus yourself on entirely if you need to.
I would suggest that whatever it is, that it is unobtrusive. If an autistic person is feeling stressed in a crowded public space having attention drawn to them is the last thing they would want.
Oh well, thanks for you time.
OK, cool. Thanks.
I'm no use for your survey I'm afraid....if I feel anxious anywhere, I just leave! Benefits of being old!
Hi, it stands for non examined assessment, it is basically course work for my GCSE grade.
Hello.
What does NEA stand for?
