Does anyone know if looking into a flashlight that's light is led and output is 800 lumens will damage my eye?
I've been so anxious lately and I'm finding a comfort in light it seems to wash calming effect over me.
I looked up damaging eye but sunlight only really comes up as serious damage but I'm not sure if it would be healthy. I don't want to be blinded or develop problems in my eye but at the same time it's becoming an obsessive urge and I'm struggling to resist.
I'm not sure what's causing it. I think it is anxiety.
Have you asked an optician. This sounds kind of a sensory seeking stim, which could be a great calmer for you but get that you want to be sure there's no detriment for your eyes.
Good. I hope the GP is able to point you in the right direction.
It's great that you have an eye test too..
Take care.
Hey thanks great idea! I'll look up telescope and see if I can try and get one. I have a night light now and that's not hurting my eyes. Got eye test tomorrow.
Yes I got a night light now and that is helping and I've got an eye test tomorrow.
Hi thanks. I have a night light which has been helping with this but I do also have an eye test tomorrow.
Hey thanks for the link I've not heard of this before but could be it.
My GP is helping me with this as well and I do have an eye test tomorrow. For now I've got a little night light which according to GP won't hurt my eyes as it's built for child safety.
I would say ambient, difused light of a shaded floor/desk/ceiling lamp, that's at the right spectrum wouldn't hurt, avoid cold/blue light, and that's majority of LEDs
Direct light even at the right spectrum if to strong might be damaging - I can't stare into a candle flame even without feeling like it's burning my eyes
but there might be multitude of reasons why you long for it, including those aformentioned muscles that need stretching, you need to find out, and the only way is experimenting, just be careful
Hi Renee.
This sounds like SAD (seasonal affective disorder).
You can get lamps and lights especially for that.
Here is a link about it.

As everyone above has said, protect your eyes.
They are precious.
Maybe visit an optician to have them checked out too.
Haha :)
I always think there's a hidden talent somewhere just dying to get out. And I love kaleidoscopes too! Wouldn't mind starting a secret society just for them. Though surely one exists...
This is very sound advice (or sight advice :)
I love kaleidoscopes - that’s a great idea.
This may sound odd, but I would try a telescope, a kaleidoscope, a microscope. You may have a muscle in your eye that needs some kind of exercise. There are quite a few handheld microscopes which might do and aren't too expensive.
LEDs can be incredibly damaging. If none of the above work, buy a candle and stare at the flame, or do this in the meantime while you work out if any of the above seem a solution.

I would definitely avoid doing this. Can you find something else that is safer to replace this habit? It would be awful if you were to damage your eyes - please take care.
Staring in to any light directly isn't a good idea. Sunlight is one of the deadliest lights to look in and LEDs definitely aren't good for the eyes. You risk damage to the retina, burns, increase risk of glaucoma and probably more than that.
When you get urges like this you must resist them as it is dangerous to your health.
Your eyes and sight are precious.
