Introduction.

Hi Everyone,

I am a 46yr old with Asperger (high functioning), ADHD and Depression.

I am married with 2 children and work as a Team Leader for a Train Maintenance Company, working my way up from the shop floor.

I have no real hobbies as such but am either carrying out some home DIY or tinkering in the garage, needless to say very hands on.

I take Concerta for my ADHD which also helps with the social aspect or lack of which is a bonus.

When my son was going through his diagnosis I started to question myself which is when I was also diagnosed.

Please reply and thank you.

  • Hello KJJ.  I was also late getting a diagnosis, in my fifties.  I have a limited range of things I'm interested in, but they take up all my spare time.  I do a lot of computer-based work.  It sounds like you've managed pretty well in life, with work and a family.  I'm sure you've had your struggles, though, as most of us have.  I've not heard of Concerta.  How good is it with ADHD?  I also have a low boredoom threshold and find it hard to concentrate on anything for very long.  Does your son have Asperger's, too?  It's most often inherited.

  • Hi Katkins,

Concerta is a form of Ritalin for my ADHD. It helps me to focus on one task but like I said, it helps with my AS in talking and socialising. Don't get me wrong, when they've worn out I'm back in my box. This helps with my work with data crunching and managing staff.

I have always known I was different so when I was diagnosed it was a relief. I then focused my brain on self-analysing. My Psychologist commented I had developed my own strategies to cope.

My son has ADHD but at 11 yrs old so it's too early to look at anything else he may have.

Great talking to you and thanks for your support.
