Just joined, saying hi!

Hi, I have just joined this forum.  My name is [removed by moderator] and I am the [removed by moderator].  Taekwondo is a martial art that offers fast and slow exercises (fast like KickBoxing and slow like Tai Chi).  We have a number of members who have Autism and our instructors sometimes struggle to know what to do or not to do in order to give the best experience.

I'd like to find out more about Autism to pass on the information to our members so that we are doing the right thing for members and their parents.

If anyone has any top tips to offer, I would be very grateful.  Thank you for reading.

Kind regards

  • Hi . Can I suggest that you ask the autistic people concerned? We're all experts on ourselves and perhaps you can work with one or two of them to find out what works and what doesn't. NAS courses are expensive.

For instance, don't give more than one instruction at a time, use unambiguous language, be clear at the start what the lesson will involve and stick to that, find if working in pairs is stressful etc
