I'm a 39 year old lady and proud to say I was diagnosed as autistic yesterday! I'm delighted to be part of this community!

It's so lovely to be here. Firstly, thank you to the amazing members who helped point me in the right direction during my diagnosis journey. I'm delighted to have discovered I'm autistic and also very overwhelmed by it. I mask a lot and I've made a promise to myself to try and let myself be more authentically myself as much as I can now, especially now I have a diagnosis. I love cats, books, mental health and psychology. I also have bipolar disorder. Navigating both bipolar disorder and autism is definitely challenging. I hope to be an active part of this community and help people as much as I possibly can.

  • Wow it’s great to have another member join us. I’m sure you’ll be glad to know you’re autistic now. Do you think anyone else in your family could have it too? Like your parents or grandparents? I feel my mums side of the family had strong genetic autism. My mum defo has it so does her dad (my grandad). Wish I knew if my grandads parents had it too. It’s interesting to me you know? What do you plan to do with this new information that you’re autistic? I made good use of my diagnosis for sure. I learned a lot about myself.

  • I think my Mum is and I'm almost certain my grandfather was. I plan to try and let myself be more authentically me and not mask so much. Thank you for such a lovely reply.

  • Me too, I think my family has had a lot of autism and mental ill health in its history. I'm the first to be open about it and try to face it more (the truth) as far as I'm aware.
