I am new here and don't have any sort of diagnosis despite having life long difficulties with communicating, socialising and obsessional interests.
Despite being a smart person, I cannot solve the puzzle of how it is possible to be employed. When I say employment I don't mean work. I am a great worker. I just seem to have no idea about some mysterious social or political system which underlies the ability to carry out a job for someone else without them getting upset.
I have recently asked an independent advocate to help me bridge the communication gap between myself and my GP so that I may get some sort of referral which will help solve the puzzle.
I have joined this community because I am 90% sure that autism is part of the puzzle, but I cannot be sure. It may be years before I get a referral so I am hoping I can solve the puzzle from within this community.
I am interested to hear about people's experiences in employment, self employment or assisted employment. I consider myself to be in assisted employment.
what do u work at ,,, what is your job?
Such a difficult question to answer. I work in my family's business and do anything that needs done from auditing to digging ditches. At the moment I am delivering hay. I like the driving and physical aspect of the job, but the interaction with customers is problematic. A school day, every day.
ah yes now i see how u have been assisted which is very nice of your family. It going to be hard to beat the job you are in. Your wish to work is good.
So you could be a delivery man for example or a postman ?
what country are u in ? eg England ?
thanks and happy xmas to you too
Merry Christmas aidie and thank you for reminding me of Stoicism.
Yes excellent. I concur with his logic, but recognise that others have an alternative worldview that has purpose but which I cannot reconcile within my own space.
i have read his book ( journal ) he's a stoic excellent read
The Roman Emperor
I guess I could be a postman. I will keep that in mind thanks.
so u have heard of Marcus aurelis ?
I am a great auditor in a general sense: not in the accounting sense because I am hopeless with numbers due to dyscalculia. I am also a holistic philosopher which is one of my obsessional interests.
ok some autistic people have done well in post office sorting centres and as delivery postmen
what complex jobs/tasks are u good at ?
