Hi I am new.

Hello,

I am sort of new. I have been a member a long time and not really visited.

My partner and I have suspected I have high functioning autism for a little while but not started to follow a diagnosis route. I have just started this year. Being in Suffolk and a high functioning adult I seem to be at the bottom of the list (it has taken 4 months to move from the Mental Health Advisor appointment to the first phone call from the Access and Assessment team and that is as far as I have gotten).

I am in full time work but have a very understanding employer, so i am lucky in this aspect. The company exercises flexi working for hours and location which has been a god send at times. My line manager is great and essentially being an archaeological curator it suits my tendencies well and I have found I can use some of them to my advantage. I do seem to mirror many school children here though in that I perform well at work but then at home I am worn out and go to pieces.

My main query is there any useful literature out there for my husband. He has emotional dysregulation issues and is struggling finding techniques to help me - I have been starting to research and learn DBT techniques (I am not very far in) and wondered if anyone knew of some of these that I could point him to to help me coming from the other direction.

Also has anyone got any recommendations on good positive books for understanding adult autism and how to help a spouse with it. I can relate to the issues in books focused on school age children but find the techniques a bit specialised for the school environment and placed from a parenting point of view.

Thank you

Julie

  • Nellie. You being new & that. Your response is well rehearsed. NAS is a State sponsored front.

Just like CEO of GSK & Reed Elsevier boss Crispin Davis who was behind the destruction of A Wakefield. The state appoint Nigel Davis ( Crispins brother) as judge in MMR / Autism cases.

To everyone on this web site. You need to wake up.

Everyone is suffering the effects of vaccinations.

What they tell us is  lie. There is no research (although Im sure there has & its about population control & Eugenics).

Please everybody. Go to your doctor & ask him to read the insert labels on each vaccine. Never mind the horrendous side effects, ask him about fertility & cancer link. Then research Bill Gates vaccine programme in Africa, where the WHO were sterilising millions with the anti Tetanus vax. Same in the Philippines & Haiti. Maybe you dont care. But now its on your doorstep.

As prince Philip has said in a few interviews.' We are all parasites. There needs to be a massive population cull to allow sustainable growth'.    Funny coincidence.

  • I also know that the statement 'I have a university degree in engineering' just translates to 'I took rougly 200 quizzes and passed them all after studying for them.

  • There is however a clear link.

Parents with autism tend to be very opinionated about using vaccines on their children. Polio was a legally obliged one, Rubella is dangerous for a pregnant woman, we gave it for sure to my daughter. Measles we considered not giving it, but it was a package deal with Rubella...

And yes, when I use doctor Google I am aware that two articles pro and one con doesn't mean pro is the winning argument.

Even better, I went five years to university and have an engineering degree. In Agriculture, so lots of chemistry, nutrition, field tests, statistics. I know how articles get published, I know the titles of these articles would never make it to a hipster T-shirt slogan ... and when the cool articles make it to the tabloids typical phrases like 'on a population of locusts grown in a lab'... are left out and what stays and makes that cute article is 'peanut butter cures skin cancer'...

  • Hi all,

Please see the following web page for the NAS's position statement on the matter of Autism and vaccines: http://www.autism.org.uk/get-involved/media-centre/news/2017-05-04-restating-our-position-no-connection-between-autism-and-vaccines.aspx

    Thanks,

    Nellie-Mod

  • I have a son with an autism diagnosis, and may have Asperger's syndrome myself. My personal experience was that there were signs that something was different about my son from the beginning. He was slow in reaching developmental goals such as sitting up unaided and walking, and never seemed to show any particular recognition of my husband or me when we picked him up. He did start to talk, but then lost the ability again at about 2 years of age, and didn't speak again for months. Until the age of 4, his communication mostly took the form of grunts, pointing and placing my hand on things he was interested in.

Yes, he had the MMR vaccine, and yes, his verbal problems started at about the same time, but it was as part of a continuation of earlier problems. I don't believe the vaccine was responsible. At the time I put it down to birth difficulties (I had an emergency caesarean), but now I also realise there could be a genetic inheritance from me. I am still coming to terms with that.

Vaccines are important, and if you are going to make a link with autism you should be very sure of your facts. Please consider the fact that in countries where the MMR vaccine has been in use for longer than in the UK, there isn't a corresponding rise in the incidence of autism.

Please don't take this as a personal attack, I know that a lot of parents blame the MMR, and I'm not trying to cause offence, just describing how it has been for my family.

  • Julie, I am knew here as well & just posted this.

Dont be afraid to speak out & let people know whats in our hearts. The deep state has done a good job to date to hide the link between vaccinations & autism. Anyone who gets close to the truth is discredited, struck off or abused.

Just so you know the truth regarding A Wakefield before the trolls but in. Andrew was a guy that was prepared to put the truth before himself, his family & his career. He came up against the corporate/state system & was destroyed. The judge who was in charge of his case was none other than Nigel Davis....Brother of Crispin Davis head of GSK Pharma & Reed Elsevier BMJ Lancet. Thats how the system works. That same system controls this web site, the media, scientific research, key people in government & all major corporations. Vaccinations & illness are but one piece of a global conspiracy.

The world is controlled & ran by 'insane people for insane reason' as John Lennon said.

Maybe we should not accept the mainstream view. They have lied to us countless times in the past.. Why should Autism be different. Tell me what you think. Research & spread the truth.

  • Hi Julie,

I'm a diagnosed Aspie, aged 58.  I got my diagnosis (finally!) at age 56.

I can sympathise with your situation.  I have always struggled in cohabiting relationships, and as far as I know they've all been with NTs.  I should say - my ex-partners have all struggled, too.  It often isn't an easy condition to live with for both parties.

After my diagnosis, I was referred by my GP to [removed by moderator] for support.  They turned me down, though - probably because of my age.  I was then offered - more locally - something called 'Psychosexual Counselling'.  When I queried it, they said that the title could be misleading (not helpful!) and that it was basically a DBT course specifically tailored for people on the autism spectrum.  The main focus was on emotional regulation.  Unfortunately, I wasn't able to go ahead with it because of a family issue at the time, and haven't been back for re-referral.  It seems, though, that it could be an avenue to explore - if there are two formulations of DBT available.

Sorry I can't help you any more than this.  I was wondering, though, how your husband's emotional dysregulation manifests itself - and if there are any particular triggers.

    All the best,

    Tom

  • There is quite a lot on YouTube about relationships. Sarah Hendreickx also is helpful about various topics. Although it’s not Aspergers the additude website has useful information about behaviour.

https://www.additudemag.com/?s=marriage&fs=&orderby=  I don’t know if it would be helpful to you...

  • Sorry for sending the same message twice, not sure how I managed that!

    Best wishes from OrinocoFlo

  • Hi, I've only just started using this forum as well. (I may have Asperger's syndrome, but haven't decided whether to seek an official diagnosis yet.) I'm reading all the books I can find on the subject, and one of them is "Marriage and Lasting Relationships with Asperger's syndrome", by Eva A. Mendes. Maybe it would help you as well, it seems pretty good.
