1800 seconds on autism
Yes, I have enjoyed those 1800 seconds podcasts too.
I’ve only really listened to autism related podcasts , I really enjoyed Aut-hour with Sara Gibbs, she interviews autistic authors, most are late diagnosed. Sara’s book was the first book I read about an autistic person growing up with undiagnosed autism.
Women’s Hour was good, it was an interview with Holly Smale, she wrote the Geek Girl books and is late diagnosed, she was also interviewed by Sara.
1800 seconds on autism is brilliant, I think there’s about 20 episodes. I first listened to Fern Brady in one episode, I went on to get her book.
meet my autistic brain
The list of Meet My Autistic Brain episodes looks interesting - thank you for signposting that podcast.
I don't listen to the radio these days, although I enjoy music I struggle with some of the in between stuff, there's a lot of chatter and adverts on some stations. I tend to listen to audio books but have been listening to a lot of podcasts, a couple I have found interesting re Autism. Uniquely human and meet my autistic brain.
You are well read! I too read “The Placed In Between”. I would have loved to have done something like that when I was younger, but it would have been even more dangerous for a woman then, and now out of the question. Sadly, women are the forgotten voices in that part of the world.
“The Rest is Politics”
When driving home on a long journey from somewhere; I sometimes select Classic FM - although I will rapidly change channel if it is rather too "film music", or reminds me of "musical theatre".
I haven't heard many editions of the podcast with Rory and Alastair (although I have found interesting those episodes which I did hear).
(I have also read one of Rory Stewart's books: "The Places In Between" in which Rory gives an account of his experiences when he walked, solo, across north-central Afghanistan in 2002. It was clearly a tough, yet insightful journey. I am glad to have read that work by Rory. Indeed, it has made it onto my bookshelf designated "read again someday").
Inside Science sounds fascinating. I saw a bit about the new data on the news and I will have a listen to the podcast.
I tend to prefer silence when out and about, working at home or sitting in the garden, but I do listen to any of the programmes on Classic FM, except “Music from the Movies”.
I also listen to “The Rest is Politics” podcast which features Rory Stewart and Alastair Campbell, on the centre left and centre right of the political divide. Rory and Alastair agree to disagree agreeably, which is rather refreshing in our political climate, and something I whole heartedly embrace, even if I don’t always achieve it (I do try!). They often talk in depth, and sometimes disagree, on a particular aspect of politics, and It would be educational for anyone wanting to enter or learn more about politics, no matter their political affinity.
I have enjoyed podcasts on history, Classics, canine behaviour, and religion over the last two years or so (I can’t remember the titles), and I will continue to listen when I have the inclination and time.
I do creative writing every day and have been enjoying listening to Sunshine Radio in the mornings. I wrote to one of the presenters, Mark Edwards, and he wrote back personally and thanked me for taking time to write to him. He said he dedicated a song to me and he hoped I was listening at the time, which I was. Small little acts of kindness brighten life so much.
Meet David Sedaris on Radio Four. I love his humor an met him when he appeared live in the local theatre. I did catch the end of a Radio Four program by John Harris about his autistic son last week.
