I like to think of it as the missing bit in the middle of a donut - so much lost potential.
Zero as both concept and number were concieved in India, were taught to the Arabs, who brought it to Europe. Europeans think of zero and other numbers as Arabic numerals, Arabs think of them as Indian numbers.
Never conflat a number with Number.....that's the Brownies talking! But, fwiw, my understanding is the same as yours (and more importantly, mathematicians who have actually convinced me of their supremacy in that subject)...that zero is NOT a number. I find this autistically fascinating.
I like your post Iain, but here are some more fun facts about zero:
Zero is the smallest whole number. it's crucial in mathematics, even though it represents nothing. It acts as a bridge between positive and negative numbers. It's indispensable in whole and decimal numbers (for example the number 50 means five tens and zero units). (Source: geeks for geeks.org/is zero a number)
When used in addition, it doesn't change the number it is added to. When used in multiplication, it always results in zero. Therefore zero is unique.
Some people do agree with you that zero is an absence of a number though, which makes it a concept. But concepts like this can be fascinating.
So I like zero because it's unique and fascinating.
I think that zero is the strongest number.
Fun fact - zero is not a number but a concept - the absence of a number so Number could never reach there. Refreshing to know.
I think it best to integrate from zero to infinity to get a true grasp of his worth. Adding all his value from the concept of an absence of a number to the absence of unlimited numbers shows his true worth.
Why do I get the impression there was something in the brownies I was eating earlier?
Oui, je comprend "penchant" - oh m*rd* , now I'm replying in French!
I find your posts interesting and thought provoking, and I think that zero is the strongest number.
Sometimes I see posts that are obviously bots - I don't engage with those - but I think that maybe there are some "bot" posts that I think are humans as I think they are evolving. But if it's a question that other people might have I'll respond with what I hope might be useful advice, as someone else might read it and find it helpful.
OK - so enough's enough.....I can put you out of your WTAF regarding this matter.
I don't like bots, nor most especially, bots that imitate humans. I feel that they pray on people (aka our friends and our community) here.....in a way that is not healthy.
I have been around here for a while.......and therefore have witnessed the exponential rise of these entities (although some other humans here do not share this perception that I hold.)
I have had a habit/penchant (French, don't-ya-know) to respond to entities that I perceive in that way, in a non-aggressive and non-invasive fashion.......with interactions from me that are "enquiring" and obtuse in nature. I am an analyst.
I have been told, by some members of this community, in recent times, to "cease and desist"....a request that I have adhered to......for the sake of attempted PEACE!
This thread that I started, was prompted by, a post that "peaked my interest" in my old penchant - IN A STRONG WAY..........but rather than respond directly, I chose to raise this thread.
I don't want to walk through woods with more signposts that trees, and with more trolls than squirrels, rabbits and borage.
I am a diminishing Number, it feels. Not an unusual feeling for me.
I still don't get it. My mind has now stopped thinking in Spanish and has a video running of a lean man running up a hill to exercise, then seeing a person walking towards them and running back the other way. Or perhaps it's a person cycling on the pavement. Or a big dog that escaped from its owner. Or all 3?
Faith was a handful she loved people but was really hyper but dogs nope. I remember this huge Doberman Jake. Faith went for him and Jake who could have had her for breakfast wet himself and ran off lol. She was a monster
Coolio.....I only mentioned that because you had down-voted my comment. It confused me.
Deaf, but beautiful....and lovely?!
I remember that song my mum changed the lyrics to what’s coming over the hill is it a monster no it’s a Faith dog. My old Dalmatian Faith was a monster lol every dog was afraid of her and she was extremely hyper around people.
Monkey deserves its place in any list. All good :)
You mention some cracking shows there, friend. All good. I am sorry if you misinterpreted my "why have you missed ouy Monkey".....it was not a criticism, just a jape!
So many great TV shows... MacGyver, Knight Rider, Quantum Leap, Box of Delights, Terrahawks... lol. Nostalgia central here!
OK Cool!! Now that I know the "vintage".....I am even more confident that I will be able to 'kick-back' with it!
Why have you missed out "Monkey".....on BBC 2.....at about 6.30pm......on weekdays? Surely, that was a lasting pinnacle of "televisual" broadcast achievement?!
I think you'll love it, it's real low budget British film making with a great cast, Richard Bryers, Honor Blackman and a couple of actors I recognise but can't remember the names of. It's in a similar vein to Attack the Block, if you've not watched it add that to your list too.
I love a "bad film," in the same way that I love a "bad idea".........I need to explore it. I have been watching "Mr Beast - (no idea what it is called.....but a TV show on Netflix)......even though I ABSOLUTELY HATE the concept, and therefore cannot understand/imagine why anyone would choose to watch it. Indeed, I have hated every moment of watching it. Nonetheless, I will watch it to the end. In it's own right, I find that interesting!!
Accordingly, I thank you for your recommendation of "Cockneys VS Zombies"......I will be watching that soon.
I thank you.
