Sorry all, but I adored (some) 1980s TV. I remember TV being Spitting Image, 'allo 'allo, The Avengers (Steed & Peel not comic book), Blackadder, Red Dwarf, Tomorrow's World, News Round, Yes Minister/Prime minister - this last being why I wanted to be Cabinet Secretary "when I grew up" as related to my mum's divorce solicitor when I was 12 - etc.
My dad was fascinated by gadgets but had a terrible attention span - really intense focus and interest followed by abandonment and zero engagement (nerodiversity of some description??) However, this made me the only member of my family who could program the video. Very useful. Very good for my TV "addiction". Some of my best socialising script lines were learned from 1980s TV...
I'd love to think so........but I suspect it was more "fluffy" than that!......although I do (most genuinely) think that this aspect of bot/commercial invasion, WAS defo part of the drive for what we now have.
Are there lots of bots on here, I have wondered? Is this what we went through all that nuisance of a relaunch for?
Unlike most of our age, I try not to "rose tint" the past too much (although I find that difficult)......because like you say......telly was decidedly rubbish in the late 70's early 80's....if nothing else!
I find that these days, I MUST take a break from the digital overload of options! It seems that we can all become so "streamlined" in our respective "recommendations/'because you liked/wrote this, we think you will like that'" culture!
Like you say, being 'out of it' for a while, is a very good thing! I should, perhaps, do that more......but wish that others could adopt the same approach.....because I fear for the souls!!
Just makes me think of that film Cockneys VS Zombies, one of the best all time "bad" films!
I remember when we only had 3 tv channels too, now we've got loads and they still show the same stuff as they other main 4 or 5.
You are lucky to be able to remember a time of no TV and very limited signal!
I remember it all too well - only 3 channels on the TV, 99% of which was rubbish and all on schduled programs.
I hated it - always wanted more freedom to choose what I watched / listened to so when video recorders came along I would record my favourite TV shows and archive them to watch again at my convenience.
It may have been a form od demand avoidance in retrostpect but the limits and controls always chaffed with me.
After 3 decades of having built extensive libraries and access anything I wanted as soon as it was released I now find it nice to have more breaks from it and just let my mind have its own inner monologue for hours at a time while I do something useful like painting a house.
You definitely follow my preferred approach to such places! Unfortunately, such approaches have not be possible/optimal for me in the past. Things are a-changing though.....so perhaps more of this style of exploring can unfold.
Sadly true. Always went well out of season and stuck to the harder to reach places, so no nearby roads or car parks and maybe a climb down a cliff to the beach (almost certainly very dangerous, but a bonus of very few people!)
Interesting?! Spanish eh! Well, to be honest, it is (in my opinion) one of the more lovely languages to hear spoken.
As a counterpoint, fwiw, I think my "communication style" as more like a dementia patient.
Rest assured (to all those with experience and/or knowledge of dementia) I mean the above comment purely as a realistic comparison, rather than a joke.
It is a great track. There can be little doubt of that?!

I love the fact that you now write of "walking along cliff paths at dusk, through persistent drizzle" because that evokes loads of happy memories for me too.
On a darker note (just to keep things real)......the only thing that upset me about "coves" and caves/overhangs in those locations......is that flipping humans ALWAYS seem to use them as secluded toilets!!!.....Hence, they smelt less of the "submerged by the sea" smell (that I love).....and more of pooooooooooooo!?
Bunny. If things are written between the lines, whether those things are perceived by me as being either right or wrong, I will also assume they have been placed there for a reason......or that I have simply got the wrong end of the stick.
In those circumstances, I may then choose to also "write between the lines" in order to avoid causing tension, conflict or upset. I think that is best. Overt confrontation is not something that I, personally, do. I will pass comment. I always try to be kind and accommodating.
"Reasonable allowances" within this community are golden.
RANDOM - can result in fun......joy.....abstraction.....difference.......and so long as it all has benign intent.....free of hubris.......that is OK, in my opinion.
Monster...
Is it a monster?
I don't know if you are referencing that track, but it reminds me of a holiday in Cornwall. Ended up with Radio 1 breakfast show in the morning every day because there was no TV and very limited signal. They played the same tracks constantly, of which Monster was one.
Now I'm thinking about walking along cliff paths at dusk through persistent drizzle after eating local just-caught crab at a little pub in the cove. Fun times!
I read some advice, a few years ago, that focusing on playing the national anthem in your mind / head can be an effective way to get rid of them.
OMG.
I might then have the National Anthem running through my head for months at a time.
Earworms are dreadful!
I read some advice, a few years ago, that focusing on playing the national anthem in your mind / head can be an effective way to get rid of them.
It's since worked for me on a few occasions. Perhaps worth trying! :)
I've very irritatingly got a Kate Bush song in my head now as an
Ah, muy interessante (that means very interesting btw)
For some reason your communication style has got me thinking of replies in Spanish!??
Indeed....its me not you....I struggle to communicate 'out" these days. I see things in difference tones, shades and context, perhaps, compared to the majority.....and it seems that this is how I communicate outwards, too.
No comprendo?
If I've read between the lines correctly, Number is referring to directly confronting / challenging / posting publicly about new members who they suspects are bots or spammers.
Rather than just reporting (via the More > Flag to moderator links) or emailing the community manager, as we should do. I still report such posts / members regularly, including bookmarking suspect posts or profiles, and then revisiting them later to check for any newly inserted spam links and reporting them accordingly.
I find that plenty enjoyable and satisfying enough, personally.
