List of what is currently wrong with the forum

I was wondering if most people who contribute here are fine with no current problems, so I thought a list might be useful.

I'm rather despairing at the moment of its brokenness and absence of communication from NAS about a timescale (or anything) for sorting these.

It's making me wonder whether to bother any longer.

1. I know that   has a message coming up in orange at the top saying his account may/will be deleted.

2. I keep being logged out (orange banner at the top with a seconds countdown).

Is anyone else getting anything still (or even unable to use their original account?).

Has anything been sorted?

Thanks.

  • I am certain that at least one of my temporary bans was caused by me editing a typo and I  suspect one of the others was too.

Interesting that the community manager is talking to you and ignoring the rest of us! pleading face

  • Update:

I asked the community manager if they could advise what triggers the spam filter and just got a reply.

They are not sure why the spam filter flags certain posts. They say that from other reports, it could happen if you add links, copy & paste large quantities of text or edit the content more than once.

They did also apologise again that my posts went into moderation, and thanked me for my patience.

  • Now I'm going to have to Google who Hobson was.

... he was an old Victorian cobbler.

    Ben

  • Regarding the “we’re going to delete your account” banner that keeps flashing up… do we assume that this is not going to happen as they’ve re-enabled our accounts?

I got this message once before, many months ago, but the community manager reassured me via email that the message was false and could be ignored. I’ve not had any such email this time.

  • For any 'sad face', there will be some 'happy face' ones I'm sure.

  • You'll find what you are looking for, in your H A N D   B    A     G.

  • Personally, I think my time here is drawing to a rapid close anyway - primarily due to PM issues and an apparent disregard and/or inability for the "powers-that-be" to communicate.....so my thoughts here - are just that - thoughts - this is not a call to arms.

People should make up their own minds and act.  I think my decision is made.

    This makes me very sad.

The 'powers that be' ie NAS itself may not even know about the problems here.

Because of the total absence of communication (directly onto this forum) by those people/person/whatever that constitutes the 'Community Manager' we know nothing.

Yes, I agree, it is Hobson's Choice.

Now I'm going to have to Google who Hobson was.

  • If I hadn't had the experience I've detailed before where Shutterstock shut down their forum, I'd be writing directly to NAS complaints.

I had just drafted out a long response.....which hung when I tried to send......and now it is lost.

SO - I can just about be bothered to retype a summary - forgive any ROUGH edges........

Debbie - This is Hobson's Choice?

Either one complains, and they might shut down the COMMUNITY forum, or one doesn't complain and the COMMUNITY forum continues to dissolve to the point that it ceases to be "community" in any sense.  This place already resembles a budget "public-advising-the-public" space for "passer-by-traffic" because ACTUAL members of an ACTUAL community either can't face or overcome the "blocking" or "privacy concerns" or, frankly, feel utter disinterest for what is often here now - or perhaps more importantly - just PURE frustration about all the uncertainty.  This is happening.

Either way, community is lost....hence why I say Hobson's Choice?

Which is the bigger risk?  Complaining - or not complaining ?

Personally, I think my time here is drawing to a rapid close anyway - primarily due to PM issues and an apparent disregard and/or inability for the "powers-that-be" to communicate.....so my thoughts here - are just that - thoughts - this is not a call to arms.

  • Same here. Starting to move from "fed-up" to "taking action".

First I need to get my guy who's good at this sort of thing to advise me.

  • If I hadn't had the experience I've detailed before where Shutterstock shut down their forum, I'd be writing directly to NAS complaints.

My strategy at the moment is just avoiding posting (lol - that's what I'm doing).

If anyone wants to contact them, I will quote from my earlier post.

All the best to you all in this battle to use the forum.

I'm unsure whether to send an email as I don't want them to decide that it's just not worth trying to run the forum + therefore shutting it down.

  • That’s exactly how I feel.

I will also note that while we’ve all been irritated by lack of contact from the mods, Pixiefox’s email suggests that they are probably having to do much more moderation work since the upgrade, which surely must be the opposite of what was intended.

So the poor mods may be as fed up as we are.

  • If they can’t fix the spam filter then inevitably we’ll stop using the forum. Being effectively temporarily banned every few days and receiving messages that were abusive and our accounts will be deleted simply isn’t tolerable.

I'm just poking my snout out of the house to say I agree wholeheartedly with this.

This is one of two reasons that I'm not here at the moment.

I'm finding using the forum stressful.

The forum shouldn't be a source of stress.

  • If they can’t fix the spam filter then inevitably we’ll stop using the forum. Being effectively temporarily banned every few days and receiving messages that were abusive and our accounts will be deleted simply isn’t tolerable.

  • I've had this happen to me 4 times since the upgrade, but it hasn't just happened on one thread, it was all of them so none of my posts were appearing. Each time I emailed the community manager to tell them and within a couple of days I was able to post again without moderation.

I did get an email from them saying they didn't know why it happened - see my post below from 4 days ago.

  • I’ve had a message for days saying that my account is going to be deleted because I’ve exceeded the allowed limit of “abusive content” (I haven’t posted anything abusive).

All posts and PMs appear to have been completely blocked, not moderated.

  • When I try to reply to another thread I get blocked - I get the message:

All replies are moderated - your reply will appear once a moderator approves it.

I get no option to appeal the block and there is only a message that pops up for a second and it does not remain in my alerts in case I missed it - a big oversight in the design.

  • Like Hamish......"I will have had m'tea" now [Disambiguation = Radio 4 reference some here will get]......I'll now be disappearing for the evening.....to "think about what I have done"....and "what others are doing".....to return again at some juncture.

    Be well, Pixiefox.

  • It might do, so please let us know what you think

  • Bless you PF........I am not a crusader in ANY way, shape nor form (and I hope my history here can confirm that beyond reasonable doubt).......BUT.....in the absence of any form of comfort from "the-powers-that-be".....I feel that my input might actually help "us-regulars" better understand what/how to navigate the nonsense that evidently exists here?
