List of what is currently wrong with the forum

I was wondering if most people who contribute here are fine with no current problems, so I thought a list might be useful.

I'm rather despairing at the moment of its brokenness and absence of communication from NAS about a timescale (or anything) for sorting these.

It's making me wonder whether to bother any longer.

1. I know that   has a message coming up in orange at the top saying his account may/will be deleted.

2. I keep being logged out (orange banner at the top with a seconds countdown).

Is anyone else getting anything still (or even unable to use their original account?).

Has anything been sorted?

Thanks.

  • it now appears, I might be frigging Paddington Bear?!?!?!

No, the implication was you were eating him. Frigging would be a more sustainable if it were consentual mind you.

    Each to their own Wink.

  • OMG......I've always wondered WTF I am......it now appears, I might be frigging Paddington Bear?!?!?!

  • Dude....panic-ye-not.....many of us have experienced this "discomfort" for many days now!

  • I’m probably imagining it but I think the forum is getting buggier by the day.

As of this morning, when I post a PM, it now appears three times in my feed.

Oh dear .... and you can't post again.

    Disappointed relieved

  • I wondered where Paddington had gone - I last saw him on New Years day hanging round the London Eye.

    Now we know...

  • Go for it, once you finish eating your roasted bear with whatever side dishes you had...Grin

  • Are the rockers going to turn up later? Could get rough! Smile

  • I must go an cook "m'tea" now..........bear with

Bear with... roast potates and sprouts?

Dead posh you are! I had to make do with roast chicken, mash and peas!

  • I must go an cook "m'tea" now..........bear with !

  • Whilst there is much "conspiratorial" thought about such things......I tend to work in binary = I believe this is also the code of our lizard overlords?

  • This is sent on Friday evening at 7.13pm

It is probably still down the pub with the mods... Wink

  • If I can be permitted a bit of latitude.....by some members here, who question the value of my "inquisitive mind"......then perhaps I can (as I have before)....unriddle, the riddle of "non-understandable" moderation prison?

HOWEVER......if it will upset too many people to do so - ie my personal research by my own means - then do please let me know?  I would hate to upset the more officious members  here???

  • I am interested (and fascinated) that my "OK - so fun...." post has appeared, but not the one in question - that has still not?!

Maybe it is being stored in the cloud (in a cave) and being looked after by trolls.

    Thinking

  • I am interested (and fascinated) that my "OK - so fun...." post has appeared, but not the one in question - that has still not?!

  • OK - so fun (and interesting fact).....I just tried to reply [very promptly] to Debbie's comment regarding the "Clouds are in the sky though".......and my response has NOT appeared.  [  This is sent on Friday evening at 7.13pm ]

  • .I like to visualise a giant underground cave

Clouds are in the sky though Thinking

  • Personally......whether it is correct or otherwise.....I like to visualise a giant underground cave, filled with a gazillion PC computers, all told to behave like one giant computer.  It amused me, in the early days of "the cloud", when we were asked - "why trust the security of your own briefcase, when "WE" can look after the contents of it for you?"

My mum told me (wisely, in my opinion) NEVER to trust people who said things like that !

  • Thanks for the explaination, I sort of understand it and sort of don't, I think it's similar to thinking about how fast the planet travels through space when we ourselves don't experience it, just absolutely mind boggling and best not thought about to much.

  • I don't know what a cloud is in this context,

In a nutshell the big tech companies (Microsoft, Amazon, Google etc) have data centres with really powerful computers that use a technology called virtualisation that allows you to "clone" a computer (ie one that was just like a PC or server) into a big data file and move this onto the central computer where it is allowed to wake up like a ghost but carry on as it was before.

The computer / server does not know it is virtual but as it can do everything just like before then it just works.

There is a load of technical shennanegans that needs to go into making it all work (this was my job for a while) but it allows you to do things like addimg more memory, a faster processor, more disk space, faster network connections etc with a few clicks of the mouse.

Things like making backups are all done by the big data providers (for a price of course) and you can have a standby version of everything ready to kick in at a moments notice in case your computer crashes or is hacked.

For management it is good news as there is no risk of power cuts, technicians falling over a cable and bringing the computer down, hard disks failing etc but most importantly, it moves the cost of everything from capital expenditure to operational expenditure so has lots of nice tax implications.

For techies it is much the same level of work, just a lot of new skills need to be learned and they are easy to outsource to service companies, saving on staff costs too.
