World too much sometimes

Often it seems the world is turned up to 11, with car alarms, dogs barking, power tools droning, car engines whining and flies buzzing.  I'm grateful for the night when all of that temporarily stops and I get some respite from the relentless and maddening background noise.

Of course I have noise cancelling headphones but often I'm called by my mother or asked to look out for visitors when everyone else is away among other things.

I have to compress my life to fit in a small proverbial space until I can break out and build my own life and identity.
