Being Told to Not Be Nice Or Helpful

So one of my things as an Autistic person is that I like to help people out, especially when they are financially struggling because to me money is a very insignificant part of life that causes way more problems than it does solve and me just being kind and generous, people want me to change about myself and not do and I just don’t understand why in a world so unkind, especially to us that are Autistic, that would be an issue. Is it just me or is it just infuriating to anyone else and hurtful that people want you to change something that shouldn’t be a problem?

  • You have just joined here to make this post but haven't obtained any points for doing so.

Odd - could you please tell us a little about yourself?

  • I’m 37, gay, a man, Autistic, struggling with social anxiety and depression. Am easily traumatized and just trying to function. Feel sometimes like I’m the only Autistic who feels as he does.

  • Thank you.

I'd say that you should do what your heart tells you to do, as long as there is no negative impact on your life.

For example if you are helping others out financially, that you can afford to do so.

This is kind of you but maybe these people (close family/friends?) are concerned about your own welfare?
