Looking for Pen Pals

Hey Everyone,

I am the older sister of a beautiful, spirited autistic & ADHD 19yo female , who is keen on finding like minded friends. She is mentally younger than 19 but is very chatty, inquisitive and kind hearted.

I am going to let her take over the keyboard now...

'Hi my name is Shamoya, so my favourite indoor activities are  cooking, baking, bored games, arts & crafts, hair and beauty, spa day, movie night/movie day and doing letter writing and outdoors activities are cinema, Cadbury's world, swimming, picnics, costa coffee, Birmingham city centre and doing food shopping with my new friends from outside of college. I am trying my best to look for my best friends who are kind, my age and fun. Would you like to be my pen pal?'

Not asking for much is she haha. Hopefully that hasn't intimated or scared anyone off. Honestly she's just looking for a friend to write letters to as she struggles socially to create lasting and meaningful friendships in person.

Please if anyone is interested or knows anyone in a similar situation don't hesitate to get in touch.

Thank you for reading!

  • Hiya! It's abbie (from the other post haha) and as you suggested, I'll write my letter here:

Hello Shamoya, my name is Abbie. My favourite indoor activities are primarily reading, I'm very interested in skincare and watching movies and I do like art. I have this thing where once I watch a movie I enjoy analysing it and thinking about what the movie was trying to put across to the audience etc. (see I've already got myself started.. oh no) I do that with my books too. My current favourite outdoor activity is taking my dog on a walk. I really love just standing and watching nature, it reminds me of when I'm thinking and panicking about stuff so much that it isn't everything. When I was in college, I had to drop out due to autism, and now I'm retaking my A levels at home through distance learning (hopefully to get to uni fingers crossed), so naturally, it is pretty isolated hence why I am looking for someone to talk to or even a pen pal, and if it includes writing pretty letters and decorating them, I am totally up to that!!

    Abbie

I hope to speak to you soon!! thanks both of you Slight smile

Also, I wholly don't mind if anyone else reaching out in this post wants to chat too. its really nice.

  • Take a look at this abbie, though I can’t mention you here, because there appears to be a million abbie’s..Sweat smile

  • Thank you for the warning, I have taken this into consideration, hence i am the primary contact. For now we will continue or pen pal journey as there is an excitement that comes with receiving post that isn't replicated in an email.

    Kind Regards

    Nas

  • Hi Mark,

Thank you for your reply, i will sure let Shamoya know she has the option to send you a message. It'd be great practice for her when she finds a pen pal and i hope you find some lovely real life friends soon.

Some recent advice i heard is 'understand that the goodest-friends will find you whilst you are not looking'. I hope that is soon will be the reality for you.

    Kind Regards

    Nas

  • Hi DeSpereaux,

Shamoya said thank you so very much for my pen pal response! She was extremely excited to read your reply.

And thank you for keeping an eye out for any potential new Pen pals!

    Kind Regards

    Nas Slight smile

  • Good morning/afternoon,

Unfortunately I had pen friends who only sent a few letters and vanished without letting me know. Replied back to pen friend adverts and no response.

I did have a successful one until got uncomfortable by sending me gifts. That's why I belong to the community forum.

Also national autistic society used to do a pen pal section in the magazine. I'd messaged national autistic society, told them about the pen friend problem and said oh wish didn't do this in the first place.

Advice is to do email only as postage is expensive.

  • I'm in a similar situation. I'm more interested in real life friends rather than pen-friends though. If Shamoya sends me an e-mail, or a pm on here though, I'll reply.

  • Hey Nas, I’ll call you that if I may,

That’s a lovely-thing you are doing by reaching-out on behalf of your sister. I don’t believe that I am a fit for a pen-pal, on account of my being a decade too-old, but I do so dislike leaving a post unanswered. So I’ll write one letter:

    Hello Shamoya,

I’ve just noticed that you are looking for a pen-pal, although I do not believe I am the right-fit for continued correspondence, I do love writing letters. So I will sent just one, if I may?

Much of what you write about forks-lightning for me, the majority of what you favour, I enjoy to write about at length. I particularly love writing and art, for all of the discouragements that I have had, it is it the pencil that has helped-me take to the risk-of-enjoyment again.
I have a dog called ‘Bus’ and he has been an emotional-support for me, since I was the same age as you, it is fitting that he should share a similar-difference in age to you, as I do from you. I enjoy writing about him and drawing about him most of all.

I understand that you are kind to those around you, you are important to your sister (and a great-few more I should imagine), when I read of all your passions and exploits I think of you as a smart-person too. Keep that kindness, keep that keen-edge in your search for friends and pen-pals, but most of all understand that the goodest-friends will find you whilst you are not looking.

    Take care,
    DeSpereaux

Thank you for the opportunity to write nice-things, Nas, if I note any worthy individuals I shall bump this post up the forum-discussion lists for them in future.

    Take Care..:)
