Just thought I should remind everyone.
Just thought I should remind everyone.
The beacons of Gondor are lit!
This is nothing new, it's a new version of a very old idea. Centuries ago, a threat of invasion was communicated through bonfires. Bonfires were built on hilltops and set alight to warn people and the military of foreign invaders. The communication was in theory at the speed of light, in practice it was as fast as someone could spot a lit bonfire and light the next one.
I agree with you. I think the media loves to whip up fear of nuclear war in the same way that they enjoyed whipping up fear of new covid variants. Fear sells papers and generates clicks sadly. It also makes people easier to control.
Whatever else Putin is, he is a patriotic Russian. It is unlikley he would persue an action that would lead to the complete destruction of Russia
Freedom is in living without fear. Easier said than done but worth striving for
I find it interesting that the alert only went to people with smartphones that have been upgraded in the last 2 years.
Its almost as if the government wants to find out who has smartphones and who doesnt. Ive long suspected that smartphones are a tool to control us, when you think how impossible it is to live without one, for instance for making doctors appts, parking charges, vaccine passports etc. Ive even been turned down for jobs because I dont have one. I think they wanted to find out how many of us dissedents are left without these ghastly machines in our pockets
Sound advice. Life is stressful enough as it is, and I honestly don't see these doomsday scenarios playing out for real. I think it 'only' took one Hiroshima for the big powers of the world to instantly develop an unspoken 'yeah, let's not do that again - we'll keep posturing, sure - we're in that corner, now. But... y'know, definitely not'. Mutually assured destruction is one of those collectively-insane-but-self-preserving dimensions to the human race (see also the eleventh hour attitude to climate change), there to get us in a measured way to a future without all that and utopian in ways we can't even presently imagine. And will never see in our lifetimes. But slowly of necessity, as it paces things just right - a delicate tightrope walk between not blowing ourselves up running before we can walk, but still making tentative, occasionally lightly accelerated progress.
Just keep calm (or at your usual baseline of existential anxiety) and carry on. I love that image, Bees, of you so engrossed in an article that you barely registered it. Once I had the inconvenience over and done with, I picked up my Doctor Who Magazine and read Russell T. Davies' monthly column - this time detailing his frantic exploits trying to track down some silver body glitter for a female friend who was to go the BAFTAs that night. Now that's a real emergency!
Caution isn't the same thing as fear but I will say don't let these things concern you too much, fear is how control is snatched by malevolent entities, the worst may never happen and then you'll have worried yourself sick over nothing.
If these kind of things cause you undue distress, and you've survived this long without emergency alarms then you probably don't need them now, here is how to turn them off.

Hooray for my autopilot "oh f*** off" reaction to notifications I guess. haha
Well my phone just did SOMETHING rn, but I was so busy reading an article I just automatically swiped it off in less than a quarter of a second, didn't even get the chance to read it.
russia have openly stated they consider the uk and "anglos" to be the enemy of the world and the spectre behind every anti-russian sentiment..... "anglos" to russians are what jews were to nazi germany... so yes, we should be very wary of that as we are their main overall target, not ukrainians, ukranians are just a standard annexation to them like poland was to germany... but we english, we are the jews to them... we should be taking this very seriously. we should build more and better nukes and make it so we can effectively wipe them out if they so much as attack us in any way. we cant expect others top do it for us as there is self preservation that will hold others back from retaliating on our behalf. we need to be able to retaliate in a way to end the threat all by ourselves.
Same for me, nothing. I'm on Virgin Mobile (I hope to switch soon).
It is worrying, I’m certain we are being readied for an attack of some kind.
yeah the uk gov knows its only a matter of time before we get targeted for attack, possibly nuclear or conventional missile.... we are legit targets, we have ukrainian troops training here to kill russians... so we are actually a legit war target as we have enemy troops to russia here that are training to harm russians... and we are supplying arms and ammo so we are a source of weapons of death to russia, so to russia we are a legit fair target and if they do strike us it will be as a legal war target because we have legal enemy troops here to them and this is a source of enemy arms and ammo, we are a fair legal war target... we got too involved...
Does anyone else think this is suspicious?
They fimd some Russian 'Ghost Ships' floating in the North Sea, scoping out our communication infrastructure, then a week later we have a UK wide mobile network alarm test?
Feels like something is afoot to me
