When I'm over stimulated, I use humming to block out noises and help ground myself.
at work this is very difficult for me because I'm so use to humming, I work for the Ambulance service as well, I know it's hard to change my behaviour but even I hate humming and I want to try find an alternative.
would anyone have any suggestions please?
Hi, as someone who is also a hummer to ground myself here are some of the alternatives I use.
Stroking a particular texture fabric I like
Listening to music, either with earphones or singing…
You have to excuse me because I often misread words and misunderstand the intention.
I thought the title of this thread was: An alternative to 'Humping.'
Hum in your head, but don't make a physical noise.
Birdsong is a grounding element as well. Would chewing gum be a good alternate & help your colleagues cope?
vibrating mobile phone touching your ear ?
I do stimming, or stimming when you touch various surfaces
humming was not allowed when I was little
use a small mp3 player with ear buds . use the FM radio and set it to no channels and listen to the white noise at full volume
I speak from practical experience of living with someone who enjoyed humming for hours, it is very very annoying.
OMG ---- i fell off my seat laughing
I think that is more educational than would otherwise be. ; )
