Praise from the other world.
Yes, my daughter is hypersensitive to her clothing.
I live alone, so indoors, I often walk about au naturel, clothing problem solved.
Yes, my daughter is hypersensitive to her clothing. I was worried initially, but I then found out that it's actually pretty common for children with Autism to have difficulty processing this kind of sensory information. Anyway, if you think you or your child has clothing hypersensibility, I suggest always removing the tags, washing the clothing multiple times to soften them before wearing, and obviously taking note of fabric types that you see you/your child can tolerate. And, it comes without saying that you should use a chemical-free laundry detergent.
I do get a certain amount of ribbing from my family about it, however. The big seam on the waistband is the worst, especially if its in line with the belt on your trousers.
I have thought about inside out underwear, might give it a go now, thanks for the encouragement.
Not a fan of labels unsure of the texture though i have hanes tshirts the softest t shirts you will ever buy i recommend they have no label and you can get 7 for £30 or less on amazon.
I have bad sensory reactions to touching most man-made fabrics - rayon being the exception. Nylon is the worst by far. If I touch it with my fingertips I get a visceral revulsion. I just shudder and want to curl up and die. The reaction can last for 10 minutes or more. I only wear cotton or linen, I can wear and stand wool, but not next to the skin, this is just from its scratchiness, not from a response to its feel. I also remove all labels that might come into contact with my skin and wear underwear inside-out, to prevent irritation from the seams.
I can't stand woolen clothes on my skin. It feels like intense itching or burning and I start shaking. Fortunately, it is easy for me to avoid although people sometimes buy me woolen clothing as a gift.
Nick, I've not touched any kind of velvet in decades. As I say above... it is easily avoided.
My hypersensitivity started in early childhood - way back in the 1950s. I would throw a tantrum if there was velvet anywhere near me; cushions, drapes, and oh dear oh dear..... paigeboy's trousers! - They used to try to dress me up in the stuff. I remember throwing a pair onto the floor and jumping up and down on them in my shoes whilst screaming and screaming (you had to do that sort of thing as a child in those days because adults just didn't listen).
Later, sometime in the sixties or seventies, there was a fashion for velvet loon pants. I ask you? Really, what was the matter with everyone? Velvet trousers for adults. The world had gone mad.
Ben
have you noticed any difference between cotton velvet silk velvet and polyester velvet? I really hate polyester but crushed polyester velvet would turn me into a monster, I get angry, and my brother is the same, but cotton is fine for me.
It’s mostly leather trousers they always look so tight and uncomfortable and labels in the neck of stuff just really annoys the heck out of me
I hate polyester or polycotton I feel electrified when I wear it or sleep in sheets of it, nylon is worse, though. I get on well with cotton or linen, silk is OK and wool is itchy and scratchy.
oh you are new --- so welcome to this forumn
the silk and velvet i understand i find them creepy but i really like leather.
Omg totally I can’t even touch silky, velvet or anything green or leather
yea they are so inflexible at times
