Hi so I was wondering about whether I should start a blog about autism and trying to raise awareness. It's mainly to help me process but it would be nice for people to read it and make a bit of profit perhaps.
However, the main question is would this be something people would be interested in reading? I want your opinions and any ideas (stuff you would read about).
Thanks guys!
My brain explodes everyday. I know how you feel.
It seems like a positive thing. I would like to see alternative views on autism/Aspergers i see a lot of opinions on autism i don't agree with it would be nice see other opinions.
I had similar thoughts, but we aren't likely her target audience, as I certainly need no additional awareness of my day-to-day life. For those whose frame of reference hangs solely on a neurotypical nail, any additional education they receive without asking me is certainly appreciated.

Sanity is over-rated. :-) In my experience it is sometimes good to write while in a wailing psychosis. :-)
As for why I write, I have no choice: if I do not write, then my brain will explode. One major reason why I wrote a memoir is because I did not want my unique adventures to die with me.
I think I'm going to go for it. Even if it's just for my own sanity
If you're feeling compelled to write, I say go for it, especially if it's for you and will help you process. It sounds like a great idea.
When it comes to a successful blog from a numbers and ads point of view, Peter and Shy David's comments here match mine. The key would be finding something that makes you uniquely you AND that you're happy to share via blogs.. and also that people want to read about. It's hard to guess exactly what will be successful until you try it out, though. You don't need to copy what currently works in order to find something that works.
Circling back around to what I said in the beginning - people who write for the joy of it or for themselves are often the ones whose writing I am draw to the most. You can tell when things are created for likes or money - it lacks something... it's like it lacks soul. So, focusing on writing for your own benefit is such a great thing in itself.
Ohhhh that makes sense now.
I was contemplating what it would take to get a blog to pay--- I agree with you 100% that the effort (selling advertising, for example), is very much not worth the effort, not the annoyance it causes for readers. I am starting my own blog, as I liked your suggestion.
The "orange monkey" name is derived from experiments that evil scientists have done with monkeys--- they dyed one orange, then put it back into a cage with the brown ones from which it was taken. The brown monkeys immediately attacked the orange one. They pulled out the monkey's skin, denied it food and water, and "shunned" it so that the orange monkey had no companions, no help, and no defense. The orange monkey ended up crammed into a corner of the cage where it starved to death.
Some times I feel like the orange monkey.
Your observations about blogs match mine. There are only a few blogs I subscribe to: Sisters in Crime, and Jane Friedman--- both are blogs for writers. Some of the blogs I have visited looked like the blogger had never written a complete sentence for. :-)
I'm confused
Golly, it would be major stress to write well enough for selling advertisement on my blog.I think I will create a blog using OneOrangeMonkey.com as the domain name. I feel like an orange monkey in a huge troop of brown monkeys.
That's what I was going for. Money is good but not the objective.
I like reading about people's autism experiences and would read it. It's hard to make a living from blogging, so I would only do it if you'll also enjoy it, and that way if it makes money it's a bonus. Good luck with it.
I shall think about this :)
Thanks aidie!
Only a small minority of blogs are interesting to read and read by more than a few. Sometimes it’s because the writer lives a very interesting life or is willing to talk about aspects of life people usually don’t, like their sex life. But for others it is the wit and entertainment of the writing style that makes the blog entertaining.
writing to get a better understanding of oneself is a great idea. But don’t be disappointed if no one reads it unless your subject matter is very exciting or you’re a very talented writer.
there are tons of tips out there ( some selling u the software to use of course )
