Well, this entire thread just ruined somewhere that I previously felt safe from the political name-calling and terrible rhetoric surrounding it. I don't feel posting an advertisement for a politically motivated news show (of either side) is right for an Autism forum, but it's the comments that mean I no longer feel safe expressing my views and asking for help somewhere where I know if I was to be entirely open I would be roundly dismissed and derided for my personal views and experiences. Honestly, I thought this was somewhere to help, talk, and process autistic issues but apparently, it's not the safe space I thought.

I think the rhetoric on both sides was pretty nasty, this wasn't a response to not liking the comments on a single side I just thought I was in a safe space that was apparently wrong but if this is everyone's idea of "respectful debate" as stated in the rules, then apparently the Autistic Society Forums isn't for me.

Punishment for homosexuality is worse in the former British Colonies. Victoria's boys left a nasty legacy. Look at the countries that people come to the UK to escape the law in their countries and you'll see almost all the countries of Africa, the West indies and the East Indies too. Former communist countries like the Ukraine, Belarus, Russia and countries that follow Shariah. Socialist countries in the EU are mostly very liberal with the exception of Poland and Hungary possibly Estonia and Latvia, not sure about them, but they fall under ex-communist countries.

Communism does not equal socialism any more than Conservativism equals Nazism.

These are also the kinds of arguments made by the likes of Hitler before they create their own hegomonies and have all their opponents silenced

Both the Left & Right have a chequered history where sexual orientation is concerned, Turtle. There have been governments of either colour in the UK that have done good (and not so good) things. And it has always been more to do with political opportunism than political ideology. People around the world face violence and inequality—and sometimes torture, even execution—because of who they love, and it's primarily in (former and current) socialist/communist states.

Whichever political grouping have seized control of the national party and are demanding undying loyalty.

I've heard this before, now you talk about the damage done to the NHS by Tony Blaire and I will agree with you. Private Public initiatives were awful, nurses still have to pay private companies for  parking their car at work. Talk about the mistakes made by Brown and I would agree, but if I was talk about the damage done to the NHS by any the Tory Prime Ministers in the last 30 years I would be attacked.

I have a similar story, Caelus. I abandoned the Left too. I had a very rude awakening when I inadvertently scratched the surface of their crusade for social equality and egalitarianism, and saw what was really behind it. It's a facade. A smokescreen for their dreams of a totalitarian state, where the individual is crushed, controlled and exploited by a ruling oligarchy.
