Shouting, screaming, throwing things, threatening people
Shouting, screaming, throwing things, threatening people
I try to give myself a 5min timeout if I'm at work, if it's possible. I will also go into the kitchen to make tea and stim. If I don't catch it in time then I either go completely silent and distanced or I start venting, usually repetitively and waving my hands around a lot.
I think I'm going to buy the cards. The ones that say...what I need. Do you have any tail tell signs you're going into meltdown mode? Mine are that I have difficulty talking and my hands go up and shake. ALSO, I've often thought about getting a service dog that will help.
I find that cardio at the gym with a good playlist really helps to release anger!
I’ll try more physical exercise. Exertion beyond comfort zones scares me a little but maybe I’m lazy.
Thanks, I'll have a look. Sounds helpful.
If it's a meltdown because of the sensory environment, the best way to deal with it is either removing the object which is causing the sensory meltdown or by taking the person away from the sensory environment which is causing the meltdown. Hope this helps.
Nice to know I'm not the only one. The aspie world had a video on exercises you can do to "get back into your body." He swears it helps---sounds like work, but maybe it's worth it.
I've found that. I can be clumsy, I bump into things. Doesn't look too noticeable. I sew and sometimes I just can't get my fingers to grip the needle.
Yes. I relate to that alot. I've noticed in the last years that I fumble alot with stuff/drop it or just plain pick things up weird--it's like a mild form of dyspraxia. I think I stim alot just to feel like my body/mind are connected.
I don't know about my hands, but 'I' certainly don't work sometims
I've definitely punched/screamed at pillows this year. The frustration is real. Do you feel like your hands don't work sometimes?
"Shouting, screaming, throwing things, threatening people.."
You forgot '''threatening things''', I regularly threaten my printer if it plays up.... and printers DO play up. I threaten it with violence and it dosen't take a blind bit of notice.... it just sits there.... Grrrrrrrrrr! (Acutally, over the years I've destroyed a few).

Yes, agreed - physical exercise is good for releasing frustration!
For me it's an overspill. Lots of crying, shouting, accusations and whatever comes into my brain first. I need to talk and I need to vent. Afterwards, I get exhausted but I feel better. I'm not the throwing type but I do like physical labour when I'm stressed. Being physically busy takes the energy out and focuses my brain on a task.
