If it's a meltdown because of the sensory environment, the best way to deal with it is either removing the object which is causing the sensory meltdown or by taking the person away from the sensory environment which is causing the meltdown. Hope this helps.
I try to give myself a 5min timeout if I'm at work, if it's possible. I will also go into the kitchen to make tea and stim. If I don't catch it in time then I either go completely silent and distanced or I start venting, usually repetitively and waving my hands around a lot.
