Yes... The reply button is quirky.  

This time it appeared immediately for this post.  But I can't see it on any previous ones?

In my experience the page needs to be reloaded several times before the thread reply button shows. You need to flip between the newest / oldest tabs several times before the post reply buttons appear and even that doesn’t work all the time. The floating “quote” button often doesn’t work. And actually it’s only now after months my log in details started working again. Mostly using safari on my iPhone.

Understandable but at the same time you would think that a lot more IT volunteers would have more time on their hands or that some Mod reading this would try to put the word out to such people. Or heaven forbids, ask the Gov for some Covid relief to solve the issue on mental health grounds. Somehow I don't think the contributors talking amongst themselves is working so far. Of course we are all very grateful to all involved in making the site work and for the work of volunteers but you can't just focus on the shop front window display if some of the shelves inside the shop are empty or falling down.   

You'd think a forum aimed at the people most likely to be into IT would get it together enough to have a functional website.

Yes that's what I have found too. The Private Message section doesn't seem to have any functional parts. The space where all messages should be readable is obscured by the large reply box so you can't read the full received message or sort messages in any way. 

And just when I thought it couldn't get any worse, the pm system is now useless-  unable to read half a message, unable to delete old messages, no control buttons (do I have to wait 10 mins for the to appear?) and the window doesn't scroll.   I can write and send a message but the recipient can't read more than the first line.    Very useful.

I don't know of any other forums as bad as this - but this technology was all solved back in 1996

I run a load of different computers and operating systems and browsers and it's the same on each.   

This machine is a desktop on Win7 with Firefox and it's just annoying on here..

I would try updating your browser? Or see how this page functions on your computer using a different one. For instance, if you're using safari, try downloading FireFox or Google Chrome?

The reply buttons not appearing is my biggest headache and I often give up trying to post and do something else.

This site is doing my head in now - the weird nested structure, the inability to follow a thread, the site navigation, the reply buttons not appearing - even the ultra-bright 'calm mode' is bugging me.

Computers behave in odd ways sometimes, that are not readily understood.

I know I keep raising it , but I have been arrested and convicted for computer stuff. I know that the website was unreliable and the police should not be allowed to use such evidence in court as it is “hearsay “ , but the then the judges and legal people no longer know these rules as it’s got so complicated.

I've found the suggestions by Deepthought of hitting the search button works in activating reply buttons using computer/laptop. Click on search icon once or if not click once then click on somewhere blank on the screen.

Plastic - As I've not been here too long, I can't tell if the site's slowed down or not. However, I do like things to be instant and frequently find myself uttering dire threats to non-cooperative gadgets.

I find the leisurely appearance of reply buttons incredibly frustrating. Especially on mobiles.

Is it my imagination but has this site slowed down a lot in the last couple of weeks?
