Can anyone think of noises that really annoy you. I hate rustling crisp packets. It sounds so loud!

I have so many. Sound is my biggest sensory barrier in life. My biggest one is the sound of people eating. I also hate loud noises (hairdryers, hand dryers, vacuums, screaming, babies crying, dogs barking, people scraping their cutlery against plates) and there are probably so many more I could name. Wireless headphones have been an absolute blessing to avoid lots of these sounds, but still can't be avoided sometimes!
People eating and drinking loudly. Especially crunching crisps when we’re watching something on tv - I can’t concentrate on the tv if I can hear other noises in the background. Snoring is another one.
Ah yeah, i hate the stuffy headachie 'feel' of central heating, makes me ill and bothered.
I was just going to add that and you said it. The smell of dust on radiators, does my head in.
Ah yeah I think that smell comes from dust getting inside and while it's on it's all being heated up, been around gamers with their huge PCs and fans that bellow out that weird burning dust smell for some time now and it's a similar smell I think. Or it could be a thing with the plasma in the screens being heated, or maybe both!
The burning/melting dust smell is a thing though it's so horrid and gives me headaches too, in houses where the radiators are old and dusty it's the same I hate when the heating is on because of it (and hating feeling stuffy but the smell also makes the stuffy feeling worse)
Yes, basically loads of things with electric running through it even when "off." I can't understand how people can't hear bulbs. But yes, it varies whether it bothers me or not. There's a constant hum at work I absolutely cannot find.
Lots of TVs also smell so bad when on that they give me a headache. Thank god LED ones that dominate now don't.
I've created a very quiet home for myself!
Sounds that annoy me:
Shutters getting pulled down/up at the front of shops
Knife on a plate
A smalls dogs bark
The sound of everyone talking at once
A bus braking
Sounds that sooth me:
Rain
Thunder
Constant traffic noise (Not stop/start)
it’s the certain knowledge that unless someone picks up the call, there is going to be another ringing noise in approximately two seconds
Alarms are so bad for getting this feeling also! Especially when it's someone else's alarm and it just gets snoozed forever more
i am totally surprised at the sound of rain giving you a headache -- i use rain sounds to calm me down ( likewise i use white noise , pink noise , brown noise ) .
i do believe u, that it annoys u. It just shows how we vary between good and bad sounds
Maybes it because I associate rain with nature , life ( because its water ). My childhood I grew up in a place where it rained alot we were always getting soaked but we were always happy.
I love rain and often deliberately go for walks in all types of rain.
isnt that weird
Glad someone said light bulbs! They don't always bother me (moreso when stressed/tired) but no one believes I can hear them when I say they are bothering me, like I'm just imagining it Do computers and printer sounds get to you also when they're just on and there's no other noise to mask it? Or TV's that are "off" but on standby?
I get the conversation one -when I was in the office everyone was working on different teams around the country so we'd all be on conference calls with different people. Even using a phone handset, if there were two or three going on at the same time it was horrendous.
Or if i was doing a tricky piece of work it was like my senses were dialled up to 11. The slightest noise would break my train of thought.
White noise really bothers me.
Fan heaters are a good example.
Some people's voices like my mother's, does my head in (but does my siblings too and although they have traits my sister doesn't, or insists she doesn't, so maybe not an autism one and maybe it's my mum!)
People slurping hot drinks, some people's eating, some people's breathing, elec noise in light bulbs, noise that comes through the central heating pipes even when off (never worked it out), low level hums, anything rythmic like ticking watch or clock; general din of large shops, sirens, car and burgular alarms
Telephones with “old-fashioned” ringing sounds, set to anything at normal volume or above, drive me crazy.
It’s not just the actual sound of the phone that bothers me, it’s the certain knowledge that unless someone picks up the call, there is going to be another ringing noise in approximately two seconds, and that the cycle will continue until the ringing is finished.
The absolute worst for this are classroom telephones on teachers’ desks and iPhones whose owners select to the “classic” ringtone option, at least here in North America.
Aargh!
