Can anyone think of noises that really annoy you. I hate rustling crisp packets. It sounds so loud!

I have always had tinnitus, I hear a ringing noise 24/7. It never stops, it gets me very down at times.
Do you mean inside the house or coming from outside? Could be 'the hum' https://www.theguardian.com/books/2021/jul/07/the-hum-mystery-noise-says-a-lot-about-modern-life - some are more sensitive than others to it. I've heard it on occasion - or at least some weird nighttime-only frequencies of no discernibly fixed point of origin.
My garden's gently wild as well. I do mow it when it gets crazy, but I don't especially like the golf course look, and the birds seem to appreciate a little bit of cover as they forage.
I dream too.. But again and again, it just happens that just as I'm thinking it's lovely outside and settling down in my (rather wild) garden, everyone else has been thinking, "Great! I'll catch up on that DIY or mowing!" and 3 or 4 of them start up in the vicinity.
I probably need to move further out and further towards my goal of being the wise old hermit that lives on the edge of the village. :)
I hear you. So irritating lol. Usually at inconvenient times of day as well.. people strimming is annoying as well they are so loud.
A noise I can't stand is people's knives and forks scraping their plates. Lol I really hate that. One of the reasons why I won't eat out because so many people do it.
...lawn mowers too. I think there ought to be an allotted time each week (a couple of hours on a certain day) where people can mow their lawns. As it is there seems to be a constant drone around our neighbourhood. Okay not a realistic proposal but I can dream...
For me one of the worst is the babies crying and toddlers screaming. Oh my god speaking from experience as a mum it's horrible and usually takes a long time to make them stop lol.
I think it's the fact that it follows such a strict rhythmic pattern. My dad's just bought one of the cooking egg timer alarms, I can't even go in the kitchen when that's being used. When I was trying to find a solution to get myself off to sleep I tried a few of those background noise apps to calm my head down...problem was I could hear where the loop started/ended and it drove me crazy, I gave up on that!
Ah yes, that sounds better. I've been giving my hands a bit of a shake but I never thought of squeezing some of the water away.
I felt the same way about our bathroom fan too, until it broke. Another family member came to me to apologise for breaking it but I said, "Oh good! We'll just open the window instead."
I find hand dryers often way too loud. So I have now perfected a technique that dispenses with the need for them, and no doubt saving the places that have them literally pennies per year in energy costs. Basically, once you've finished washing your hands, take one hand and squeeze near the wrist of your other, staedily pulling down until you've compressed your fingers tightly. As you get to your finger tips, the last droplets will be already going. Then repeat with the other hand. Then the gentlest of shakes. Only takes 20-30 seconds and one's hands are as dry as if the air dryer had been used.
That's an interesting one for me. It depends on the individual clock in my case. A gentle tick in an otherwise silent room can be quite soothing in a way. It's just one degree away from total silence, which can also be very nice of course.
does the noise of being asked for something whenever someone here (in "real world") speaks to me count?
hmm, hard to think of any that aren't hypervigilance related or that dont eventually make me flip out lol
people noise as a general rule i suppose lol
Yes, I feel that way too. Mind you, I've reframed it as the bus farting so these days I also have a little inner smile.
Ah, I'm actually fascinated by massive insects. Spiders, however, tap into something else in me and they abound in summertime.
I don't mind an occasional bit of DIY but there seems to be certain houses where, as soon as the sun comes out, so do the tools. And I just want to relax in the garden.
I have quite a few, but to pick one out..
When people have the typing sound enabled so it clicks everytime they press a letter on their device. Instant rage.
