Does anyone have any experience of getting an ADHD diagnosis as an adult? The waiting list in our area is around 14 months and I can't find any private specialists. I was thinking it would be easier as I assumed many of the same centres that diagnosed autism would also offer this.
I've just today been to my GP to ask about a referral. She's made one for me and told me it could be up to 6 months. She asked what I hoped to gain from getting a diagnosis. Understanding.
That's still a fair while. We tried to access the service at the Tuke Centre, York but apparently, because of a backlog, this is not something they're able to offer at the moment. This means that their website is inaccurate.
And yes, understanding is central. I think it is to do with our very identity and with ways of making some sense of what has already happened in life.
