Autism as heightened experience of reality

Do any of you feel that being autistic is like being on a permanent trip? Never taken drugs, never will, but when I was reading about LSD , I thought that the descriptions were very similar to my daily experience of reality, or close enough to it to be comprehensible. But it's exhausting being so intense. In my philosophy book it mentioned ''cerebral hedonism'' - yep, that's what I experience daily.

  • I have never taken illegal substances.  However, if taking them confuses your mind, makes you wonder what you are doing at times, makes communication difficult, makes your mind wander randomly, overloads your senses, makes it difficult to understand what point others are making and makes it difficult to understand the point you are making, makes you want to be on your own, keeps you thinking over and over again about the same thing, makes you dislike change when you have no control over that change, then I suppose taking drugs is like being autistic.

I suppose like autism though, how one person is affected by taking drugs is unique to that individual.  So there may be some similarities.  The real difference though is that drugs are a transient experience, until the next 'fix'.  With Autism, it is there constantly.
