Self-Harm

I don't know whether i'm over stepping the mark talking about self harm on here but hope i'm not breaking any rules or anything as it's not intentional i promise.

I've hurt myself again today. Don't worry it's not serious and i see my GP tomorrow and intend on telling her so it's all good.

Just feel so sad suddenly.

I'm talking to a friend which is good cos she is supportive.

May go bed so i can calm.

Any tips?

  • Hi Patiens. Yes i have 13 bunnies. Had 14 but lost Twitch suddenly in March. I have 8 lionheads, 2 harlequin/black satin, 2 rexes and a rex cross lop. They are my babies.

Your cats sound lovely too! My second bunny was called Rosie too. :)

    How are you?

Yes i'm not too bad. Don't feel as down today just very anxious.

Just done a painting of a horse. It's not bad. For me. Hehe.

  • Good to hear you seem to be getting by, Anne.

Do you have a lot of bunnies?  I have only ever had one and gave him the 'inspired' name of Bugsy.  Gosh that was a long time ago.  He was a Dutch, as I remember, partitioned black and white.

I now have two cats who are dedicated to depositing their white hairs all over my best - usually dark - clothes (they're a white and marmalade and black mix but the marmalade and black hairs never seem to show).  Their names are Rosie and Daisy and they are sisters from the same rescue centre.  They can both be a pain in the patoozie, of course, but they are mostly just adorable.

    Best wishes to you,

  • Hi. Yes Samaritans are really good i often text them when i feel this way and i find texting/emailing etc alot easier than phone calls so that's really helpful.

Dr's went okay. She helped me fill my incapacity form in and we had a little talk. I just need to keep planning my days/evenings as much as possible so i don't have time to think about bad stuff.

I've cleaned my bunnies out this afternoon and let some out to play and i have a spare hutch i want to sort out so hoping that will help fill some spaces

Thank you to all for your kind words and hope i didn't say too much and if i did i will try hard not to again as i really appreciate this site and all it's support.

    Thank you

    Anne

  • If you feel the need to self harm, you can present yourself at A&E.

  • Hi Anne,

Really sorry to hear how difficult things are for you right now. Right now it sounds really tough and it's clearly taking a long time for services to come together to help you, so I hope the visit to your GP at least helped moved things forward for you.

I know we've mentioned some services that can provide support for self-harm but I thought it might be helpful to provide the links again. It's good that you're able to talk to your friends but you should also surround yourself with as much support as possible from professionals who are going to be there when you need it.

Please, whenever you're feeling like you to talk to someone, consider calling The Samaritans at any time. They aren't just there to help in extremem situations and can help you by listening to what you're going through. You can call on 08457 90 90 90 or take a look at the website for more ways to get in touch -
    http://www.samaritans.org/talk_to_someone.aspx

Get Connected is a service that provides helpline, email and web support and also helps to put people in touch with other services that may be able to help. Have a look at the information on the page and consider getting in touch -
    http://www.getconnected.org.uk/497/what-to-contact-us-about/selfharm.html

The self-harm section of TheSite.org is one of the best resources I've come across for information and advice about self-harm. There's a lot of advice there that includes support for coping options as well as dealing with some of the reasons self-harm may be something you're finding yourself needing. Here's the homepage to take a look at -
    http://www.thesite.org/healthandwellbeing/mentalhealth/selfharm

The Bristol Crisis Centre for Women have a long pedigree in providing support and advice to women that are self-harming and can provide text and email advice. Their website is well worth a look and they will be more than open to discuss anything you're experiencing -
    http://www.selfinjurysupport.org.uk/

I realise this is a list of links and not direct support but we have to be realistic about what we're able to offered as opposed to services geared towards self-harm and ongoing support for you.

I think one thing that might be helpful is to avoid straying into too much detail when discussing self harm - people will be here, and on other services, to help you regardless of exactly how you may be self harming. I'm just aware that discussing details can be triggering and difficult where self injury is involved, especially when people may not be expecting it.

Please, I hope you don't think this is us not wanting you to discuss how you're feeling - it might be best to focus on that though moving forward.

And finally, really wanted to ask if you're discussing the situation with your family. I know finding support hasn't been easy and it's really difficult to see that, but the more open you can be the better able people are to help you. So if you have people around you in your family and friends aren't able to help then please consider talking to them.

But we all hope you're doing okay and can find some support - for this and how you feel about the people you've lost. Remember to keep looking for help on the good days as well as the difficult ones, you deserve and are entitled to get help.

Let us know how you're getting on when you have a chance to come back online.

  • Hello Anne

According to the information here you posted this around 8.00 pm.  I am really worried about you, but that's my problem, not yours.

If you return to this this evening tell me, what did your doctor say?

  • My arms are a mess. I hurt myself 16times. I'm struggling so bad. Texted couple of friends earlier to try to talk to someone but even though they replied they didn't seem to want to talk about it so yet again i am stuck. I'm probably feeling sorry for myself but i just feel so low and lonely. Feel useless and like i don't deserve to be here. I'm trying hard to stay safe tonight though.

  • Hi Anne

It sounds, from this and "Justice for my friends", like you really need to talk to that doctor.  Let us know how you get on.

For what little it may be worth, the closest I ever came to self harm was when my five year old daughter died - a very long time ago now.  There seemed to be something wrong in feeling such a terrible pain and not being able to 'see' a consequence, a feeling that an injury of some kind would make a sort of sense out of it.  I never quite got to doing it and I'm not sorry.  I don't think it would have made much difference.

Loss - of a friend, or a beloved parent or even a child, does eventually get easier, though you'll never be able to forget and would not want to.

I have never set eyes on you, but I promise you that you should be taking care of yourself and that you do matter, even when it is not obvious to you.

    I hope you get/got a good night's sleep.
