Keeping my child back a year - Mainstream

it was the schools suggestion that he stayed back, he was been re statemented at the time, we were looking for more hours of 1 to 1 care, The Educational psychologist   agreed it would be best, apparently it will be when he is in p6 (i'm in N Ireland here they leave primary after year 7) that the request will have to be made to allow him to remain in primary school another year

Thanks for the reply kc. Did you have support from the school with your decision? and how early in the school year did you start the process with the local authority?

We did did last year for my youngest son, he's currently in his second year in primary one, it's been a huge sucess for us, he's much more able for the work this year, although he was only born six weeks before the cut off date for starting school a year later and was the youngest in his class last year

On a more personal note, only you as a mother know what is truly right for your child and I have found that the best thing is to go with your gut feeling and do what feels right for your child and for you.  I am sure that you will make the right decision whatever it is.  Good luck
