ASD AND ENT ISSUES

Dear all,

This is my first time on here..

My son is lined up to have his tonsils and adenoids removed and possibly grommets put in, in the next month or so.

I want to hear from any parents who's child is ASD (non verbal if poss) and had chronic ear infections.

Did the surgery help? Was it worth it?

  • My son had all 3 done on 31st Oct last year as he had glue ear and constant ear infections also tonsillitis every other week his attendance at school was really bad his speech was very delayed he didn't actually speak properly until he was 5 when he had a cochlear baha 6 on a headband that enabled him to hear things around him

since having the operation he has come on loads with his speech and has not needed the hearing aid since we have his first hearing test today so fingers crossed all is good still

His recovery was very draining for me especially when he refused to eat as his diet is very limited anyway get stocked up on calpol and ibuprofen ice pops and yogurts

    Hope this helps

  • Ah lovely, thank you for your reply. I am massively overthinking about what can go wrong after the surgery. Makes all the difference to hear your daughter is better off for having it.

  • My autistic daughter (very verbal) had her very enlarged tonsils and her adenoids removed at nine and was much the better for it. I believe grommets can have very beneficial effects for chronic ear problems, but have no direct experience of them.

  • @mods, could you please move this up. If you've been pending approval on comments, this one seems a bit urgent. Thanks.
