Driving Theory Test

My son is now 20. He has taken & failed the theory test 5 times. I think it is a combination of factors including how he interprets the questions and being unused to self teaching via an app. Ideally I’d like to find someone who has experience of tutoring someone with ASD in driving theory. He really wants to work in car sales & this is affecting his ability to progress in his chosen career and causing a lot of anxiety. We live in Bristol. Any advice would be gratefully received.

  • How is he scoring on the test apps? I took my theory only when I was consistently passing on the test app every time. can imagine it must be frustrating and disappointing for him.

  • Hi, I can’t offer any help, you’re not alone. My son is 21and has ADHD, we have lost count of how many tests he has done. He did eventually pass a test about 3 years ago by one point, he then did about 5 practical tests but anxiety and concentration affects him every time. His theory has now expired and he has done another 4 tests. He could progress as work but can’t get passed this hurdle.

If it’s the hazard perception part then there is a good interactive dvd on eBay. Every answer is in the Highway Code, it’s just getting them to read it, problem then once again is concentration and processing the information.

I hope you find an answer.

  • We’ve tried having a reader & extra time but that didn’t help. I think he’s interpreting the questions very literally.

  • For what it's worth it took me three tries to pass it. I think it's a combination of rushing it and perhaps not reading the questions properly that didn't help.
