Books

I wondered do books alone help with parenting children with ASC or is it also helpful to use other  forms of information and advice?

  • A therapist is a great idea. There are autism specialists out there but not easy to find, especially for adults but I think there are more for kids. Definitely get some books as well, it can only help and I know there's videos online to help with this as well.

  • That’s helpful thank you.,I have come across therapists with an interest in Autism who can give tips but not an Autism therapist but then I’ve never looked

Books are a great place to start but they cannot cover every issue in enough depth for what you may need, so that is where a forum like this one is great to get input from others who have been down those same dark paths and can help illuminate the way.

Therapists with experience are another great resource, but they are not cheap and I think are best used for very targetted approaches to issues.

  • Suppose it depends on your learning style. Do you like reading? Are you a good reader? Or is it your idea of hell, will you retain the information or will it go in one ear and out the other?

I don’t have the attention span for reading, I used to as a child but not as an adult!

I like short bullet points of information, Mind maps, YouTube videos and websites. They are easier to refer back to.

Tik tok has lots of information in short bursts which suits some people’s learning style.
