Autism is a neurodevelopmental condition so it is either present or not, so, although problems associated with it can worsen or improve, it does not develop as such. I think that the rather odd wording does not imply that he will become more autistic over time, I think 'borderline ASC' would have been a more accurate wording. 

Thank you. He was in a strange environment with strangers so he will be different. The report says he’s on the threshold of ASC, does anyone know what that could mean? 

Yeah like Martin says you know more now you're aware that he had difficulties and you can help support him with these now. Different times and settings and feelings will trigger your sons difficulties and reactions. At home with my sister I was happy, talkative and laughing but if mum came in the room I was silent, no laughter, no eye contact. Just one person or thing to make me feel uneasy and that's what happened.

Talk to your son, ask him how he felt and see if he'll open up to you. If he's like me then he'll want you to talk to him.

It means that you know a lot more about your child than a clinician seeing him for a few hours does. At his age, in the circumstances of a clinical assessment I would have been entirely mute - selective mutism - but when not stressed I was very talkative indeed.
