Diagnosis meaning

My son age six has recently received his assesment results. The report concluded he is on the threshold of ASC, he scores high enough on communication, sensory and obsessive behaviour. He has speech and language delay/difficulty’s which I knew and possible cognitive delays. The report said he made little eye contact and little relevant speech yet he does do those things a lot. What does this mean

  • Autism is a neurodevelopmental condition so it is either present or not, so, although problems associated with it can worsen or improve, it does not develop as such. I think that the rather odd wording does not imply that he will become more autistic over time, I think 'borderline ASC' would have been a more accurate wording.
