Our middle child (8) has ASD and possibly ADHD traits but no diagnosis. For the last two years he's been homeschooled (for reasons unrelated to ASD/ADHD). When he was at school his teachers did have concerns but nothing formal came of it.
We'd like to return him to a formal school setting but have concerns about sending him back without a diagnosis - he's older now and his behaviour may be more problematic to an unsympathetic teacher.
Are there any recommended pathways for diagnosis of homeschooled children? We have considered private diagnosis but most tests seem to be one session so we have some doubts on how in depth the test will be and how much a private diagnosis will help inform the school or the NHS going forwards.
