Wondering if EHCP is worth the fight

If you think he wont like the diagnosis and is generally coping I would think twice.  There are mixed thoughts by experts on this, most leaning towards getting it but each case is different.  He will get little support in his 6th form and Univesity unless he is lucky and its a long road to get a diagnosis.  The 2 questions I would ask myself are how will he respond and will he cope without it, if so, there is unlikely to be a benefit.  Just my personal thoughts.

In theory yes. But we don't have unlimited amounts of time and energy.

Plus, we've been told it will take a long time, so I'm not even sure we'll have it before he finishes his GCSEs. If it's no use after GCSEs and we don't have it before then, we'll have wasted the time and effort involved in getting it.

I think anything that may help even a little is worth the fight. My son never got a statement of special.eduxational needs.as they were back then but still got help in the form of an educational.plan which included being taught in a small group outside the main class, help with organisation and extra time for exams. Simwone to read for him during exams and a scribe. He went to mainstream school which he struggled with all through his education and sadly even though he is intelligent he passed no exams. Any help that may be out there is worth pursuing in my opinion.
