Dear Community,
Could anyone recommend a family law barrister who has got good knowledge about Autism? This is to help us in a Child contact case.
Thank you.
The recent case of Ethan www.bbc.co.uk/.../uk-england-33121969 made me think of your problems. I don't suppose that your case is much like Ethan's case but...
A mother's love for her child can blind her to other points of view. The court processes are not perfect but they are not random or arbitrary. The father has a point of view and he has rights as do you and your child. He may not be reasonable in your eyes but the court has to be impartial and not take emotional decisions.
It isn't the barrister's job to educate the court about autism. That job would fall to an "expert witness". I expect that this would be a consultant psychologist in this case. These add further costs to your case and may well be countered by an expert witness appointed by the other side.
Thanks all.
Pageant : Iam going direct access as unable to afford a solicitor anymore.
crystal12 : Will try calling the firms listed in NAS.
recombinantsocks : Alas LA not interested.
I lost the case previously as the judge thought I was over-dramatising the concerns with my child( pending diagnosis at that time) and that the child should be treated like any other child. However now that autism is confirmed, Iam seeking a barrister who needs to educate the court about the condition, which would impact on the case overall.
The problem with barristers is that they won't make anyone see sense. They also won't guarantee anything apart from a large bill. I'm currently employing a barrister on a construction dispute and even with this sort of case, where there are objective issues to decide, they won't guarantee anything.
Unfortunately, there isn't a black and white "right answer" to how much contact is right for the father or you to have with your child.
Did you get anywhere with your local authority childrens services?
What's the case about? if you find the right solicitors, they can usually find the right barrister for the issue.
Hi, all I can think of is you check the law society website to see who specialises in that area. Maybe there's a link via the home pg, or you could ring the nas helpline or try the ipsea site for a link. Maybe another poster will be better informed.
