??????

Good Evening all,

I had a mental health assessment today, when i was explaining everything thats been happening to me and what i do she mentioned autism.

I have been doing a little research and i have all the traits of this and have struggled for years!!

Can i just ask is the diagnosis of this (if it is?) A sort of way of coping with this or sort of acknowledging it and what help is out there? I feel so isolated and different to everyone all the time because of the way i am.

Thanks

  • This can be a really exciting time, but also an overwhelming one. To realise your possibly autistic is huge and brings up so many different feelings. I think the best thing you can do is to explore: read books written by autistic people, listen to podcasts, read articles and speak to other autistic people like you are on here. It's a chance to learn about yourself and understand why you may have struggled with certain things all your life. For many people getting a diagnosis feels validating and it also opens up potential supports. I wish you the best of luck on this journey.

  • Hello JooshB19,

Welcome to the forum! You are very welcome here and we hope you find advice, support and friendship.

Many of our members and staff have feeling similar and as Marianne states you are definitely not alone.

We have the Advice and Guidance section on our websites which aims to offer as much support as we can. You can find the link at the top of this page or click on this link here:

    Advice and Guidance

Within this there are a range of headings you can explore.

I would recommend first looking at What is Autism.

    What is Autism?

Then you could further explore the diagnosis section.

Did the mental health professional offer any further recommendation or follow up chat?

A conversation with your doctor would also be useful should you wish to pursue this further.

We wish you the best of luck. Please feel free to ask any questions and we will try our best to answer them.

    With best wishes,

    Anna Mod

Welcome to the community - all [or most of us] are like this! I'm sure the moderators will offer advice when they see your post [they don't cover 24/7, being volunteers, but they do read all the posts]. Meanwhile, I'm sure you'll get a lot of responses, but give it time. The main thing to keep in mind, is that you are NOT alone.
