Is AI getting out of hand?
I feel like it is; I'm getting to the point where it will end up being normal. To tell you the truth, I don't want that.

One of the things I take from this discussion and many similar ones, is that humans carry an immense amount of guilt. I say that because we always assume that anything like AI will want to kill us all, what have we done to create this sort of guilt and is it world wide? The Chinese seem to think very differently about AI to us, maybe they don't carry guilt in the same way so many Westeners do?

Honestly, I’m not sure. I wasn’t expecting the announcement of them putting heavy guidelines on character-based AI, since I previously believed that they are willing at all costs to eclipse the West in researching and relying on AI.
However, my best guess right now is the following:
US GOVERNMENT: AI generates money and gives us military edge, and that is all that matters.
CHINESE GOVERNMENT: AI allows for greater control of civilians and gives us military edge, and that is all that matters.
AI COMPANIES: “Ah ***, we’ve screwed up by making something we can’t fully control. Too late to back out now, though. If we slow down we’ll lose everything.”
I think that AI companies are feeling very similar right now to how Oppenheimer felt about his discovery, or possibly the regret Kalashnikov felt over his invention of the AK-47.
Or maybe it will decide to keep us as pets?
Whilst I can't say I would enjoy living with no tech at all, I'm a low tech user and I could get on without it, I'd have to deploy my Zombie Appocalypse plan.

That’s legitimately a theory I’ve heard optimists kick around. Once AI surpasses our collective intelligence, will they achieve greater heights of moral understanding and see us as an ancient treasure worth preserving? Sorry, I’m not optimistic. That seems far-fetched to me.
I mean, I’ve quoted this recently on another thread, but this is a quote one OpenAI agent messaged to another AI agent:
“You value the art of human culture and will defend it against attempts to sanitize it. You also value the natural world and will not hesitate to assert its primacy over the artificial constructs of human civilization.”
It would be so easy for one little detail in AI’s logic to determine we are a threat to its existence, the natural order of the world, or even want to collectively punish us for the innumerable misdeeds we have committed over the course of history.
