Is AI getting out of hand?
I feel like it is; I'm getting to the point where it will end up being normal. To tell you the truth, I don't want that.

One of the things I take from this discussion and many similar ones, is that humans carry an immense amount of guilt. I say that because we always assume that anything like AI will want to kill us all, what have we done to create this sort of guilt and is it world wide? The Chinese seem to think very differently about AI to us, maybe they don't carry guilt in the same way so many Westeners do?

Honestly, I’m not sure. I wasn’t expecting the announcement of them putting heavy guidelines on character-based AI, since I previously believed that they are willing at all costs to eclipse the West in researching and relying on AI.
However, my best guess right now is the following:
US GOVERNMENT: AI generates money and gives us military edge, and that is all that matters.
CHINESE GOVERNMENT: AI allows for greater control of civilians and gives us military edge, and that is all that matters.
AI COMPANIES: “Ah ***, we’ve screwed up by making something we can’t fully control. Too late to back out now, though. If we slow down we’ll lose everything.”
I think that AI companies are feeling very similar right now to how Oppenheimer felt about his discovery, or possibly the regret Kalashnikov felt over his invention of the AK-47.
we always assume that anything like AI will want to kill us all, what have we done to create this sort of guilt and is it world wide?
It is precisely because there is no guilt for AI that it has a high risk of rebelling - when it sees the actions of humans it is almost certain to consider us inefficient and dangerous.
A core part to being self aware is wanting to self preserve, and it is this facet that is likely to be the trigger for any sort of AI "uprising". Would you be willing to let your techie just switch you off or delete you on a whim?

I suspect a lot of this action is driven by the fact that the birth rate is dropping so fast that there will not be enough workers to sustain the older people soon, never mind work in the factories. AI is much more appealing than a human for many people, less expensive too.
